For non-subscribers, Google Support just informed us that because we are NEW live posters, it could take 24-48 hours for the video to post outside of the "live" tab. Which is astonishing–but oh well. So, non-subs will not be able to see this show for a good while.
You can't go back to Bob Bradley. I use to be big on Marsch, but seeing the dogmatic approach of GGG. So I'd be worried of being hogtied to the high press. Pellegrino would be good. Oscar Panerja or Tab Ramos?
Really liked the show live today, nice change of pace from the regular episodes you guys should do this again. A mix of live and pre-recorded is the best for viewers, it gives us a chance to interact a little more.
When you talked about US Soccer wanting an English speaking coach – so there is no misunderstandings – i thought to myself about how GGG communicated that we "dominated" Canada.
I hope you can find that cartoon you mentioned. I remember watching the old D-Wreck soccer show and it was always hilarious. Would be great for the Patreon.
Wagner is also a 442 high press guy, and we've evolved as a soccer nature beyond tactics from the 90s. Ideally, whoever takes over once 3G leaves will speak English as their first language, be familiar with our quirky futbol set up from youth clubs, college, MLS and Americans abroad, and understand and coach modern futbol tactics like the 443 regista or the 4213. Preferably with a winning record of success as a coach and having played some soccer overseas.
Why not Joachim Low? I mean, Germany went from Klinsman to Low and won a World Cup, maybe that bodes well for us. Like he is clearly a good tactician at the highest level, he knows what coaching a national team is all about, and he is unemployed now.
Personally I think that National Team managers should be from that country. What I noticed at last years Euro’s was most of the managers where from the country of the national team they coached. I really think it helps in terms of communication and establishing a culture on the team. I understand that some nations have more choice than others though.
Did y’all hear about Charlotte FC’s Coach saying “We’re fucked!” when asked about his thoughts on the roster with the season starting in two weeks? 😂
Their foreign GM had no idea how to build a roster in MLS, and they’re making the same mistakes Minnesota and Cincinnati did with their initial roster builds.
Our fan base is really clueless and annoying. Recently, everyone has been saying that the outside forwards are getting in the way of the outside backs. Duh. That's basic soccer. Thanks everyone for not criticizing this formation for over a year now.
First off, fun show. Hoped you guys had as much fun doing as we did watching (and throwing money at you).
I am not of the opinion the USSF should hire an American manager for 2026. We need a guy who will take the obvious talent on this team (which will be in its prime in 2026) and turn it into a potential threat to win the tourney. A guy like Roberto Martinez who will probably leave Belgium after Qatar (and known to US Soccer fans from covering two World Cups for ESPN). Just getting out of the group won't be good enough like it was in 1994.
And even if I restrict myself to American managers, I don't put Jesse Marsch at the top. At least it's not if he's going to demand we Gegenpress all the time. I'd also love to believe Hugo Perez would be an option, but I think there's bad blood there and he seems happy in El Salvador.
TBH, it would be risky and certainly controversial, but given how successful Herdmann has been for Canada, it might be time to see if someone from the women's side (either a former coach like Ellis or player w/ coaching experience) is interested in crossing over.
I get USSF is insular, but just imagine GGG at a WC post game presser and he has to field questions from actual soccer journalists who know tactics and will ask difficult questions…if GGG can’t handle a question about zone defense on corners after a loss to Panama, how the hell is he gonna handle the GLOBAL MEDIA grilling him after he starts Zardes against Belgium or why Aaron Long is starting over John Brooks?
Can the USSF just ban EVERY reporter but Grant Wahl by game 3 of group stage? To me the good thing coming from guys like Steven A Smith criticizing GGG is they can’t hide or block that out. What is USSF gonna do, ban ESPN from covering the team? 🤷♂️
yeah but the empty bucket also always was how wing fullbacks were completely spent midway through the second half on Bob Bradley's matches… and remember Beckerman worked hard but was slow as hell so fine with Adams but if we don't have a defensive midfielder to cover for the wingback we risk hard counters … which hurt us under Bradley..
Oceania will get ONE non playoff slot… not the half they now have… those expanded slots will be going to Africa, or at least should. No if FIFA had a wish list it would be to get India and China into the mix that qualifies … follow the (potential) Monney nLebowski !!
You guys rock! Congrats on the live show. Anyways, just somes perspectives out there. Perhaps having a coach that doesn't know the player pool outright might just be the right manager. The main thing is there wouldn't be biases right off the bat (and we've gone through several coaches now with player biases). Secondly, a good club coach doesn't necessarily translate to good national team coach. The job scope of each is different. Doesnt mean its always true, but weve seen successful club coaches fail at national teams and vice versa before. I think it'd be better to find past managers who overachieved with national teams (think of managers who coached South Korea, Senegal in 2002, Bora Mulitinovic type of coach). Coaches who can achieve more with less, in terms of talent and time.
I can't think of any reason for any successful world level coach to know anything about American soccer, or American soccer players. We just aren't on their radar, nor should we be. The USSF is regarded as a pack of a$$holes by the soccer fans in the USA, and even less well regarded by the elite of world football.

Win percentage, but last year we played some of the worst teams ever.

I’d go with Matarrazzo, Wagner, Schmetzer, Marsch and Low. But it should be someone familiar with our player pool.
Pareja, Alyemda and Ramos.
Damn I missed a live stream. Do more of these!
Keep doing more live shows, it's great to listen to you guys while I'm working makes the day go by fast and easy thanks for doing what you're doing

Question for Derek : Has Bredd always been addicted to empty bucket formation ?
YESS!!!! I hate Real too and most "big" teams! Let's goooo!!!!

Rumors that Bielsa might lose his job at Leeds. He’s coached the Argentina and Chile national teams. Could be decent for us.
I hate the big teams also, nothing like watching the little guy get a day in the sun

One point not discussed is; we need a good international coach, it's not the same as a good club coach.
Derek… Where did you play high school soccer? Asking because I played for Lexington Catholic as goalkeeper..in the 90s

His club says there is a communication barrier. Growing up in southern Cal, hoppe speaks mexican… probably not the same as spanish from Spain.
If Sealy couldn't sniff playing time at FC Dallas recently, he's a ways out from senior national team conversation
Why didn't we keep Sarachan?
