      Credit to Stones. I remember a time when it looked like he might be on his way out of city. But he went back to basics and made the most of his attributes. Good on him.

      This is what Pep does.. he turns player's into "hybrid footballers"
      Done this with a handful of the ex players he managed at previous clubs. Lahm, Kimmich, Fernandinho, Walker (Man City) and others.
      Stones is the latest project and example of Pep's mastermind of converting player's into this hybrid footballing professional.

      Never rated stones , the fact tom pope of port vale said he would score against city if stones was defending and he did proves he aint all that . A league 2 striker at that .

      It's a floating CB not a full back, that's why it works, it's quicker to transition from CB to CDM as it's a few metres back and forth

      What amazed me about that City vs Bayern game is how Pep did not play a natural fullback. Ake is naturally a CB played as LB and Akanji played as RB when City had the ball. In this game, John stones became a Cdm when City had the ball and then without the ball, he became a CB with City reverting back to a back 4 out of possession.
      Pep played Bayern without a natural fullback and won the game in breathtaking fashion.
      Pep is truly the GOAT Manager in my eyes.

      Trying to claim that your defensive duties are less playing in this inside fullback role is ridiculous. If anything they're more as you have to be able to read the game perfectly (knowing when to press and when to drop back) as well as knowing how to quickly transition from centre of the pitch into a full back position. Not saying a full back's job is easy but you have a narrower space to defend.
      This is why Rico Lewis is a special talent – he's only 18 and yet he already gets the job. John Stones is even more impressive given the criticism he was getting a few years ago. He deserves all the accolades he's getting!
