Too lenient if anything.
Commit the crime do the time. Losing the plot, red mist , are used way to often as an excuse. Football is an emotional game, but self control is part of it too.
What’s the point of going through the facade of an independent hearing if the fa are going to contest it till they get what they want in the end anyway. May as well cut out the middle man and just do their own thing. Just seems a waste of time and effort and a degree of lip service again.
I’d referees demand respect then respect is a two way street. Mike Dean shooing people away who are asking questions and pulling faces when someone would raise a point isn’t exactly the most respectful starting point. Collina managed to do it his whole career so what exempts English referees front these standards?
A good starting point would be having the referees stop using players first names during exchanges. It creates familiarity which is completely unnecessary.
Referees should have to explain their decisions after the game in a after action review. If they made an error then say so but explain the thinking rather than creating a cloud of arrogance by saying I’m in charge and this is what we are doing. Especially when 40000 other people see it differently. Referees decision and is final and that’s that doesn’t fly any more in the 21st century I’m afraid. People accept mistakes. And people accept viewpoints.

"you have to protect the referees" how about they learn to do their job first
Suarez avoided a red card for biting Branislav Ivanović but got a 10 match suspension… Luis Suarez was found guilty of racially abusing Patrice Evra and given an 8 match ban and he had the support of Liverpool FC the whole way… Roy Keane was given an additional 5 match ban after serving an initial 3 match suspension for his horrific, potentially career ending, tackle on Haaland after he admitted in his book that the tackle was deliberate… During the Liverpool v Manchester United this season, Bruno Fernandes pushed the linesman and did not get a card or a suspension
You English have lost your minds if you think Mitrović's manhandling of the ref is closer to the Keane and Suarez misdemeanors deserving an 8 match ban than that of Fernandes that got off Scott free

i think if they go soft it will keep happening, i think they should give a punishment that shows players that if they do something like that in game it will not be tolerated and u will be punished for it, so i dont think the penaty is too hard at all

Player and manager got off lightly. The hypocrisy from the media as always is a joke. We all know what they would be doing if the people and club involved were higher profile.
Should yellow card every player thats surrounds a referee apart from the captains
an example had to be made of this guy. I agree the actions weren't as bad as made out but a message had to be sent that it is unacceptable behavior to dissuade others from doing the same thing, he had to take one for the greater good.
Probably about right 3 for the red card and pushing the ref and 5 for being a complete idiot and looking like a plonker on tv

His ban is too harsh. He didn't kick the referee or punch him in the face. 8 games is too harsh.
These players need to know the action of respect. They all talk about it but talk is cheap. If you dont show respect then it doesnt matter what you say if your actions are the opposite.
We have made these football players think they are gods among humans and thats our fault. They are nothing more the humans kicking a ball thats it.
