Brighton continued on their unbeaten run in 2023 with a great 2-1 win over Liverpool in the FA Cup. Having already beaten Jurgen Klopp’s side just 2 weeks earlier in the Premier League 3-0, Brighton are on sparkling form under Roberto De Zerbi and could find themselves going the distance in the FA cup.
One stand-out performance again for the Seagulls was Kaoru Mitoma – who bagged a tremendous goal in extra-time to put Brighton into the 5th round. The 25 year old Japanese forward has been the surprise package of the season, arriving from Kawasaki Frontale in 2021 for just £2.5 million.

The business is fantastic at Brighton, but it’s almost like the club has an ‘x’ factor in maintaining team spirit.
I remember when we went 14 games without a win under Potter, and the standard of our game never dropped. We just keep driving on.
Robinson could have gone too. In fact, I feel like all the Liverpool subs were brought on to take players out.
Showed a side of Klopp and Liverpool that I hadn’t seen.
In that game I went from someone who had a soft spot for Liverpool, to not wanting them to win anything this year.
Just look at both Fabinho and Robinson’s challenges.
There was nothing accidental about them.
Klopp is a bad loser and a cheat.
That’s all I learned on Sunday!
VAR would've turned them over it the roles were reversed. VAR only looks after the big clubs unfortunately. This game showed all the flaws with VAR against the smaller clubs
Lot of Brighton coverage on TV here in Japan suddenly this year!! So great to see Mitoma destroying defenses in the Premier League. Watched him here at Kawasaki Frontale where he played before his big move overseas. Still can’t understand how he didn’t start in the World Cup!!!
