Name every great RB in prem history and infront of them they would have had a world class midfield, without the stability of a great midfield all defenders suffer l, some people just don’t understand that. Once Liverpool have sorted there midfield issues Trent will be back to his best

I've said for years that Trent's job is not to defend, it never has been. When you analyse Liverpool from 2018 – 2021, you will see that Henderson and Trent swapped positions every few minutes on the pitch. Henderson went to the RB spot whilst Trent went forward to be a creator on the right wing. When they needed to track back, Trent went into Henderson's original position in the midfield.
Since Henderson is not performing like he used to, due to age, injuries and burnout, it means Trent is having to defend more and therefore getting caught out because he lacks the experience that Henderson has.
A rejuvenated midfield would help Trent big time. Another thing that would help is more competition in his position. He has been the number 1 at RB for years, with the only depth being Milner or Gomez. Calvin Ramsay suffering an injury early into his time at the club meant there was still nobody to make Trent work for the starting position.
I think Liverpool already have the solution in the form of Conor Bradley. He's been playing well on loan at Bolton, he's younger than Trent and has everything to prove to the coaching team. Getting someone in the squad who can stay fit and improve would put pressure on Trent to get back to his best and it would improve squad depth.
A midfield rebuild is badly needed. Henderson, Thiago and Milner aren't getting any younger. Keita and Oxlade-Chaimberlain are too unreliable. Jones hasn't managed to establish himself and Bajcetic and Elliott are still not very experienced. Bajcetic is definitely the future choice for the CDM role and Harvey Elliott is a great prospect but he's more like an attacking midfielder than a box to box one, which is what's needed most right now

I realise this take has almost reached meme status at this point but I really don't see why he isn't developed into an RCM. He spends much of his time in the right half space as it is and from this role he can easily rotate with Salah I to wider spaces to provide crosses when appropriate. Obviously the lack of a decent RB to replace him is the current barrier but I would even consider trialling Gomez there and allowing the team to rotate into a 325 shape with the ball or something similar.

But on a less serious note, his not a defender, or at least his a very bad defender, n i doubt he'd work well in the midfield, the boy has 0 defensive awareness, instinct, tackling ability, cant read the game in the slightest, no where near enough pace 2 get him out of his own mistakes, n is jus weak. Even Dalot is a better defender than him. His g+a r finally drying up now Liverpool fans can finally see what the rest of the football world has seen for years now

Perfect analysis. The one thing you have to look at and if you have played football you will understand is if you are an attacking fullback and as influential as Trent has been in the past obviously being so far up the pitch most of the time you will get caught out of position that is just a fact, then to get the blame you saying you cant defend is just idiotic. The system as it is doesn't work and its to the detriment of Trent. All those slagging Trent even some of our own fans look at what he has won?? At 24 years of age he has won everything bar international European cup and the World cup and he has been pivotal in the last 4 years to the way Liverpool play. English media ruining another great English Talent.

Great video! Trent will be back when there is a functioning midfield again. Just a dip in form, same as Rashford was going through last season. He and Liverpool will be back next season.

Couldn’t agree more. The lack of energy in midfield is so obvious and if you check the running stats for previous seasons and what ones were successful, the answer is so obvious. Liverpool are covering less distance and sprinting a lot less this season – refresh needed

You all need to stop pretending Trent was good to begin with. You all judge a defender based on attacking stats and not that Liverpool is not good, we all see that he is a shit defender which was obvious from day one.

TAA is just not a RB, he's a midfielder playing RB, offensively he's unreal but he has zero awareness defensively, can't man mark or zone mark and lacks remotely any physicality to be a RB in this league. He's not moving Salah on RW but he could be great in CM or at very least a more inverted WB position where he could come into the centre and be creative.

It narrows down to one thing he can't defend. He's 40/60 player. He can attack on the 60 but can't defend so he's a 40. So he's unreliable……..
