In this Episode 02 of the Korean Kicking Project I share my perspective on where specialization on kicks fit in the overall “evolution” of martial arts at the point when Korea was being rebuilt. The different historical stages of kicking development are addressed with special detail mentioning many of the Korean arts kicking pioneers. I also take the chance to point out the link of some famous martial art stars (Bruce Lee, Chuck Norris, Cynthia Rothrock, Van Damme, Ninja Turtles) with the Korean systems. A must-see video for the fanatics of martial arts history.

  1. Gracias maestro Adrogue por esta segunda entrega. Un vídeo muy interesante para quienes amamos el arte marcial con un valioso contenido histórico. Con ansias ya esperando el 3# episodio.

  2. Mr. Adrogue, what a superb explanation, simply outstanding. History and influences are always interwoven, I remember seeing twist kicks in Karate Master Nakayama's book, and other so-called Korean kicks. All the best.

  3. Master Manuel Adrogué I cannot tell you how proud I am of this incredible work that you did with the impeccable knowledge that you have about these martial arts. I can't agree more about the terrible development of the WT not only in the combat system but also in the Patterns which make them unbearable to watch.
    Congrats for this new project!!
I bow to you my friend

  5. Thank you Sabeumnim Adrogué, this video deserves four thumbs up. It is very concise, to the point and at the same, detailed. It is like listening to a lecture done by a Professor level. I agree that the Olympic style is heading to a very vague direction.

  6. This is a fantastic history video which I thoroughly enjoyed watching, and I will eagerly continue watching the rest. Thank you so much for your deep and insightful scholarship and dedication to presenting it to the world in an accessible way. I have been a student of Tae Kwon do for over 20 years and have never had so much historical and contextual information as readily available as I have found watching your videos.

  7. Basic Kicking skills was add by Funakoshi Yoshitaka between 1936 ~1946
Front kick, side kick, double jump kicks, side jump kick was already exisited but Yoshitaka introduce round house kick(mawashi geri), back kick(ushiro geri), hook kick(ura mawashi geri which introduce by Nakayama Masatoshi)
In 1954 JKA Karate video Shotokan already practiced 곁차기(Uch mawashi geri)and spinning back kick(ushiro geri not spinning hook kick)
