On the latest OneSoccer 1-on-1, we welcome Canadian men’s national team and G.D. Chaves centre-back Steven Vitoria in conversation with Adam Jenkins, reflecting on an incredible journey to the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar, and looking ahead to both a crucial match window in March in search for a spot in the 2023 Gold Cup, and well ahead to 2026 when the World Cup comes to Canada.

Vitoria, a leader and veteran on the team, gives us his assessment of newcomers like Dominick Zator and Kyle Hiebert, previews upcoming matches vs. Curaçao and Honduras, and reflects on those magic moments before Canada’s first convening since Qatar, and the lasting impact those memories will have on the growth of soccer in this country.

Vitoria and the rest of the CanMNT will be in action for the first time since the 2022 FIFA World Cup TONIGHT on OneSoccer, taking on Curaçao in a crucial Concacaf Nations League battle in search for points as they look to book a spot in the 2023 Gold Cup, and possibly qualify for the Copa América, too. 1. Vitoria is one of our cornerstones and hope he stays healthy and continues to play for us. I was in Qatar and I tell you the national anthem at the beginning of those matches was very emotional. Despite losing all 3 matches, we had a great time and felt that Canada was always in each game. I really think they are going to do well over the next 4 year cycle. I even think one championship in the upcoming tournaments is possible, and I think a QF birth in 2026 should be their achievable target.

  2. Very excited to see our team in action again tonight!
The maturity of players like Davies, David, Buchanan, Eustaquio, Kone, Johnston etc… should make this team even better this year, not to mention the much better form of Larin.

Our FIFA ranking of 53rd versus Costa Rica (32); Mexico (15th) & USA (13th) is a complete joke. FIFA should be embarrassed to post such a ranking. Their format is ridiculous! The qualifiers should have had a much bigger role in determining ranking, since all of the best players fully participated in them & the U.S. didn't have home field advantage, as they do in the Gold cup…
We better win some of these tournaments to improve our ranking, as we head towards the 2026 World Cup, so that we get seeded into an easier Group this time.
