On this week’s WYW, we look into Jack Grealish’s season. The Englishman was seen as a disappointment last year, but now, with City second and almost identical goal numbers, he’s talked up as one of Pep Guardiola’s best players. So what has changed between 2022 and 2023? Which Barcelona star does Grealish play like? And how did he change his perception so quickly?

As always, let us know your thoughts in the comments below.

  1. City would be at 3 or 4 if not Grealish this season, He's the MOST IMPORTANT player this season alongside Rodri. Haaland isn't that crucial.

  2. The amount of goodwill Grealish has over the likes of Antony and Nuñez is ridiculous. Any non-british journalist sees Grealish as still a flop (not just because of price) unless the standard is of a squad player, but you prefer to find excuses with expected this and expected that.

  3. It’s more so how much they paid for him and how much the English media absolutely shoved him down our throats. He’s not bad, he’s pretty damn good in actuality, but for that price? Taking up space and being technically gifted in a Supreme side is…pretty goofy.

  4. Jack Grealish is amazing at transitioning the team from playing out of defence to the attack. A very unsexy role, for which highlights and most common stats completely ignore. Thankyou for finally being the person to start pointing this out.

  5. Robert huth was actualy a very good centre back ,
3 top ten finish's with stoke left helped leicester stop up & win a league

    Huth underated

  6. Ahhh the sweet sweet bitter tears of plastic fans City have upset over the years, great reading through the comments….biggest small club in the world haha come on City! 🤣💙

  7. he progressively gets to the opponent's box then turns around to kill our advances. He's the most fouled player in the league, why hasn't he won us penaltiesssssssss?

  8. I like the tone of this "Why you're wrong…" series. Gives me Charlie Brooker vibes, light-hearted, sarcastic, almost condescending, and is perfect for Pat.
    Keep it up.

  9. If pep wanted someone who can drive the ball forward and get fouled he could have bought anyone from age of 18-22yrs old from French or Spanish league for 10-15mil. Grealish is not 200mil pound worth. That is including his transfer fee and contract. A winger on 30-40k a week can do exactly same what grealish does on 350k a week.

  10. Trossard is what mancity thought they were buying with Grealish. He's average at best. Another English hype to flop. Join the dele alli train

  11. As a Villa fan I thought his goals and assists would improve because he now plays for a team that score for fun but he was never a good goal scorer, also at Villa he was basically allowed to do what he wanted and everything revolved around him whereas at city he is restricted to a specific system

  12. The Iniesta comparison is great but I think that’s the problem. City have plenty of players who can stitch midfield to attack, evade pressure, and create space with their ball-carrying. These attributes of Grealish’s help the team gain territory and maintain control, which City hardly ever have any problem with, as opposed to penetrating defenses and creating dangerous opportunities. Imo city needs wingers who accelerate the play and provide a constant threat in the final third. That’s why selling Sane and Sterling and signing Grealish was mistake imo, tho this doesn’t mean he’s a bad player.

  13. 4:49 Corporate wants you to find the differences between these two photos… They're the same photo

Only real differences are that he's more limited in his movement within the city system and he isn't taking as many centre circle kicks. Just symptomatic of playing in a more possession dominant team

  14. Imagine playing right back against Grealish.

He always wants to run past you, he stays in the wing the whole time and he's fast and carries the ball super well.

He doesn't score much but he doesn't lose possession unless fouled.

Not looking at stats, but Jack plays just how Pep wants him to.

  15. He does so much, not a lot of assists and goals but he's still so involved in the set up of most of our good games and a lot of our goals as the pass before the pass or the fouls drawing or even just shit talking and passing off the other players causing mistakes. I love him as a city can and hope we keep him for a while

  16. you got to admire Haaland for being effective at 1st season with Pep in Man City while others only up to speed at their 2nd season . Preety frigtening to see how Haaland gonna improve next season .

  17. Yeah yeah Grealish does sooooo much other than scoring and assisting so he’s a great player but Weghorst is crap. Bore off.

  18. I didn't realise his stats weren't changing that much. I have read so many articles speaking about his improvements and adaptation this year… I suppose all that has changed is our view of him in Pep's system.
