  1. Excuses. Southgate is simply choosing to ignore it and he has a much bigger talent pool to choose from. level. There are so many players in all five main domestic divisions in the men’s game. There a a ton of English players, playing abroad too. In the two years Serna Weigman has been in the England job, she’s built a proper system from the senior side all the way down to youth level with a significantly smaller talent pool. She’s actually won a major trophy.

  2. Even though he is biased, he is correct. Have reached a critical mass of foreign players that are crowding out young english players from the english game.

  3. Gareth Southgate is a serial LOSER AS A COACH ! what has he won has his choices ever brought England a trophy????? or is he just mAking excuses for being out of his depth!!

  4. He needs to open his eyes. Joe Willock offers something different to any other English midfielder. Pace, power and skill. How Gallagher gets picked ahead of him is beyond me.

  5. Just remembering when people were saying that following brexit it would mean more opportunity for english and British youth to play in the premier league… Who'd of guessed more empty promises.

  6. Shrinking pool? There are English players abroad, as well those that can be persuaded to play for England (born abroad, ancestry, etc). But, as with most England managers (maybe the FA) they focus on the top 6 clubs in England and pick from there.

  7. Why?? He has the same pool of players he uses every time, only uses 13 or 14 players anyway. So a shrinking pool of players doesn't affect him.

  8. Excuses. England are definitely in the top 3 in terms of squad talent, only behind Brazil and France. 10-15 years ago, they were behind many more teams including Germany, Spain and Italy. They just need better managers and better leaders.

  9. Wow what game is he watching? I bet there’s quite a few talented english pros out there climbing at the walls with this – some of these players like Kane, Maguire and Shaw literally walk into this England team regardless of their form. While I’ve always been a huge fan of Henderson, and I think he still should be picked, but should he really get regularly picked at this point in front of 24 year old Trent A for example? Plenty of talent left Gareth! Just look.
