We’re expecting John Herdman’s latest Canadian men’s national team roster any hour now, but ahead of an official squad announcement, Josh Deming and Alex Gangue-Ruzic ponder some big-picture questions: Namely, with a new World Cup cycle beginning this year, is it time to transition some regular faces out of the squad, as new talents emerge and challenge for roster call-ups?

Here are six player battles that could play out in 2023 and beyond, as the CanMNT prepare to take on Curacao (March 25) and Honduras (March 28) to round out their Concacaf Nations League campaign… and attempt to book a spot in the 2023 Concacaf Gold Cup.

  1. It would be interesting if you did a ranking of leagues so that casuals could understand the level cmnt players are playing at.

  2. Hajduk Split u19 2 Dortmund 1 ! Champions league semi finals here we come ! Croatia is scouting Croatian Canadian kids. A country that doesn’t take a knee to there anthem !

  3. I don't where your heads are at, but Canada's biggest weakness is not at the #6 position, it's the #10 position followed by top shelf CBs. Our best #10 is Osorio but he rarely finds his way into the starting line up due to the midfield being clogged by has beens like Hutchinson. More importantly, I don't think a team needs a 6 and an 8 if they have a strong 10.

  4. I am quite low on Liam Millar. He is ok, but not a difference maker. CB we need new blood , I would definitely call up Stefan. I don't wanna see Vittoria again, time to move on .
