Michael Carrick believes Manchester United enjoyed a “fresh start” at Leeds after a trying week.
You could see his point – but some troubling facts remain.
United have one win in seven games. They are 13th in the league. And they remain a blunt instrument.

I thought the fresh start comment was so weird. A fresh start why? Because Martinez’s comments?
The circus continues. It’ll never end until glazers are out and we get a new board btw.
It may be a ridiculous take, but if there were a “fresh start”, it should have been the game vs Atletico. Yes, we lost, but there were actually some good moments in that game. Not this game.
Meanwhile the Leeds manager said game should’ve been won. That’s grim
Our next 8 games in all comps:
Como (A)
Bournemouth (H)
Chelsea (A)
Roma (H)
Villa (H)
Liverpool (A)
Sporting (A)
Brentford(H)
It’s hard to even predict how many games we might win here. At the moment I would say that I’m afraid of all these teams. Maybe Como is the easiest game here.
If Carrick truly believes this game had positives then he is deluded and needs to go before Christmas
We where better than the previous games no doubt but man we are still so far off. Conceding 60% possession to leeds does not feel right in any way. It feels like we are having more trouble in terms of player synergies than anything else with the players just missing easy passes and our fullbacks not overlapping correctly(mostly Dalot doing this, i hate it when he gets the ball and instantly passes backwards) for the forward pass when they meet the winger comming down. I understand that just watching another team play wont magically fix things but i wish that our fullbacks & wingers would study on how PSG’s do when they advance the ball.
I guess it just takes to long for our players to pass, they always get the ball and start looking around instead of instantly knowing where their teammates are(again with the synergies between being ass).
Fresh start is just setting us up to counter every opposition from now on. Let’s see how that works at home against teams we need to be beating and are happy to sit off us.
Trying to gaslight us into thinking that was some sort of turning point performance. Christ what a state this club is in
Yes give us a fresh start. F R E S H
Is the fresh start in the room with us? And is he names Antonio?
We can’t keep consoling ourselves: “We are doing better”, “It’s a fresh start”. At least we need tangible result, aka wins.
Like I said many times before, I have faith in Carrick and won’t blame him even if he loses his chair. I blame INEOS for this predicament. But we need a win, and quickly.
I don’t know how anyone can view that game as an actual positive. It’s positive relative to the gutter level performances before it, but that’s the sort of thing a relegation level side would look to.
We were poor in my opinion. We only looked like scoring in that short period before we scored. Never really had control of the game. Had a period where we did win 50/50s a bit more. But this is all against a lower mid table side away from home, not prime Barcelona. Leeds away is a bit tougher than the usual but we should be going there and dominating the game more.
Similar to A.Madrid performance it was a bit meh. We could have scored more but it wasn’t dominant. The tempo wasn’t amazing and there was no sustained periods of slapping the opposition about. I don’t think it’s close to good enough.
There are positives?
‘Well done mate, you managed to vomit in the toilet instead of all over the bathroom floor’
Pathetic.
We’re a mid table clubs now. People are just slow in coming round to the fact. INEOS have solidified the shit work that the glazers have carried out before them.
you have to expect the performance on the pitch to turn around before the results do.
Looking at the actual play, there was a huge improvement from the first half of the Tottenham match to the Leeds game.
It was also a huge positive to see that Carrick is now moving away from the strategy he started the season with which did not appear to “click”. Fair play to him for swithcing to something else – having that 5-2-3 in our repertoire is an improvement. And this tactic is only possible because Baleba and Santos are two new signings that give us a whole new dimensions in midfield compared to last season.
The major issue so far this season is that Sesko does not wear proper shin guards, and so has a long-term shin injury due to a kick. Thus we are too reliant on Mbuemo for goals, and we dont have a Casemiro or McTominay to bail us out in these even matches either. Bruno is being used high up the pitch but also is not scoring, and Amad seems to be missing that sharpness in front of goal after his injury, and Cunha hardly played yesterday, Rashford is also not looking sharp in front of goal.
Ideally you would want to get your goal contributions from 3-4 players.
United desperately need a striker backup for Sekso. Because without him, crosses, corners and long balls are toothless, that are three very important dimensions to our game that are gone without him on the pitch. Sekso is also just as capable as Mbumeo of finishing chances so it double our goal threat.
This sub has always been toxic, but the hate towards a second club legend and the lack of support for the team is genuinely starting to turn me off more than the performances.
It’s mad that sitting in against the mighty Leeds United (who have also won 1 of their last 7 games) and still being a goal line clearance away from losing the game at the end is being hailed as some sort of good performance. The players might have fought a bit more, won a few more duels but is that enough? Tielemans created two good chances for Mbeumo in the first half, the one he scored and the header before, but aside from those we were hopeless going forward. The majority of our shots were harmless efforts from outside the box and we never looked like scoring in the second half. I’m not one to shout about standards but fucking seriously.
Interesting it’s not a positive playing 2 defensive midfielders, but it was required as Kobbie & Tielemans were being overrun, I wonder how Kobbie gets back in if he wants to continue with his “positives”
Fuck that.
It’s a dark day when a draw against Leeds is positive. We’re better than that.
