Watching Messis highlights at Barcelona it becomes clear that at Barcelona the man was free in heart, mind and soul. He was allowed to run from the middle of the pitch to the box without someone crying for the ball. He played his game and this intern glued the whole team together and made Barcelona so dangerous because when the opposition least expected it he would release the ball to a player they were no longer focused on. At PSG it seems like he is not free. Its almost as if he is playing with fear that Neymar and Mbappe will give him hell if he doesnt give them the ball. Its like he was told to serve those two. Neymar and Mbappe are fighting to be the main man at PSG and this doesnt help in glueing the team together. it also makes the teams style of play very predictable. Everybody knows that Messi is looking for Mbappe so he can give him the ball to score for the team. if Mbappe is heavily marked or Messi is heavily marked or both of them are heavily marked then scoring becomes difficult. PSG also plays Messi more of a middle fielder who connects passes to the two players infront of him Neymar and Mbappe. its like Mbappe is the top man, then Neymar is behind Mbappe and Messi is behind Neymar. I see Messis role at PSG as being very similar to the role that Iniesta played at Barcelona where he was mostly a middle fielder that connected passes around the middle of the field and to the forwards. Using Messi only for his passing ability and ignoring his attacking ability is not a smart thing and this is why MNM doesnt look as dangerous as MSN yet Mbappe is a much more deadly striker than Suarez. MSN was united and extremely creative and Messi glued them together and took good care of them on and off the pitch because they were both willing to take notes and they trusted him. At PSG egos are flying, but no trophies are coming. The environment is toxic and they pretend to get along because the cameras are on them and there is tension. I know that Bayern Munich woke them up though from their world cup slumber and made them realize that they need one another to win that game, so in the second leg in Germany i expect sparks to fly. i like that they are 1-0 behind and that they have been losing games lately. waking up is now inevitable.
