Not being able to manage a game effectively is a problem that’s plagued England for generations. It’s neither a Southgate or Tuchel problem, we are a nation of bottlers who revert to type every time we find ourselves in the ascendancy when these high stakes games come around. The main reason we have progressed far in recent tournaments is because we have lucked out with the draw, we can’t beat the top nations.
