We don't seem to have a system maybe playing down the wings but no control in midfield no press no cohesion England never really had a system or style of play to note

His form isnt great at the moment but he won and was solid when Leicester won the prem is he a vidic or Rio no he never will be , back 3 should be walker, Maguire/stones , guehi with shaw left wing back and Trent right wing back

I personally am not criticising Maguire. I'm criticising Southgate for even considering picking him.

Southgate’s safety first, predictable and pedestrian style of management will see us never fulfill our true potential and actually win something.

Danny Murphy ‘’He’s strong. Doesn’t cone out and say stupid things’’. What?? He has thrown his teammates under the bus a few times, and that’s more than enough and stupid. Part of the reason the United camp are disjointed with their own captain not taking accountability.

Regarding Southgate, NO he doesn’t deserve credit for making those changes against Germany. Everyone and their dog wanted these changes from the start. Why should poor performance repeatedly not make him change, but literally waiting for a goal conceded or two, then reacting. We’re not talking about going all gung ho to the cost of being defensively naive, far from it. But why not be a little more proactive and be more positive in the approach, that, as exampled again against Germany, is where we see most our sustained good play, and dangerous chances come from being on the front foot and being proactive.

He's generally frustrating to watch, not just on the pitch. His interviews are horrible. Blames other people while never owning up to his mistakes and always saying "I'm the captain of Manchester United" is irritating as well, it's like an ego boost for him, a command for respect, I bet barely any of his teammates actually respect him now. He lives in his own world where he tells himself he's amazing and the only reason he isn't doing well is because of everyone else. Whenever he makes a mistake he feels like he needs to set things right and do a big play but he's not capable of doing anything great and usually makes matters worse like in the England vs Germany game.

He's a person who expects the level of respect a Man Utd captain should have while doing nothing to live up to the standards of a Man Utd captain. He's literally won nothing notable as a footballer but yet thinks he's a top player. He's genuinelly toxic. Completely drunk off disillusion

Maguire is a good defender you don't grow up to Captain Man Utd in your career if you can't play football. Maguire is playing in a position where your a footstep from being away from playing a striker onside and giving a goal away. Maguire sadly in the day of social media is an easy target and every stray pass is highlighted. The man has lead us to a final and semi final as our CB. My only concern is he's not blessed with rapid pace if he had pace we wouldn't be having this conversation however he is a good player on the ball and aggressive plus he reads a game. Every player loses form. I remember watching Gazza, Beardsley, Shearer they all lost form during their careers no player is exempt from that. Dan Burn should be taken to support Maguire another similar CB who can relate to the position

If you're not playing enough games WORK HARDER IN TRAINING! If you're touch has gone focus more, get into the game more on a physical and fitness level, work harder in games when you get your chance, get involved more, work your way into games. Do extra fitness training, get stronger, work on your reactions, pace and endurance. Make sure you're the fittest player on the pitch when you get your chance. Be decisive in games – should I hold my position or close that man down? Just decide, react and do it quick whatever you decide to do. Be positive FFS. These are all things professional players do when they're off their game to get their game back, you work hard at it, and Harry Maguire is expected to do it too. It's like he's got no character, no will to come back. Get angry if you have to, force your way back in and force other players in your position out, part of it is also about being aggressive and staking your claim in the team.

5 at the back is not the problem and there is not a lack of players for this formation either. Is it the optimal formation for the team? Maybe not, but Southgate plays in this formation while he doesn't pick players which are a good fit for the formation. He picks the best players according to the media and his personal favourites. Dier plays well in the middle of 3 CBs at club level for the past two years and he is called in just now. He MUST start in a "5 at the back" and Southgate could easily pick 2 other CBs as his partners from Stones/Walker/James/Tomori/Guehi or even Shaw. He has options between Trent, James and Trippier as RWB. Maybe LWB is the most problematic role, but he can call Sessegnon or use Sterling as back up to Chilwell. Potter has been at Chelsea just a few weeks and already tried Sterling as LWB. Southgate is just a bad tactician and he can't pick the proper players for his system. Or he can't change his tactics to fit the players he has. Southgate is not sacked yet just because of the media outbreak that will follow.

Instead of using them to rebuild Maguire's confidence, why not use the group stage at the world cup to bed in a new partnership of better players in central defence? Tomori and stones would be fine. Rice Bellingham and mount in midfield. 4-3-3 like most of the players play for their clubs.

Danny murphy should manage them, im sure he'd be brilliant with all the experience that he has

With James and Chilly at their best they are the best wing-backs in the game. That's the main reason to play 3 at the back and that's why Chelsea play that system too.

He also plays worse. If he was an dutch centerback he'd cost 15 million.

I just love Danny Murphy, between Danny and Martin Keogh that are the best professional pundits and mens game co commentators. I don’t agree about Harry Maguire, if his club form is bad, should not be picked for the WC squad. Wokegate should be selecting likes of Eric Dier who is bang on form.

Ps please please don’t let wokes ex WSL woman co commentate on MENS professional Premiership football ⚽️…..I can’t stand that dreadful squeaking from women who have never played top tier MENS football.

need to get rid of southgate!! negative, crappy, defensive football. does not care how bad, how good players are playing. has no tactical awareness. Get someone in who is going to play attacking, aggresive, entertaining football
