Mikel Arteta reacts to the incredible late drama at the London Stadium and VAR’s ‘brave’ intervention to leave Arsenal within touching distance of their first Premier League title in 22 years.

-TIMESTAMPS-

00:00 – Intro.

00:04 – Two moments. Raya’s save and a call from the referee that was very brave but consistent.

02:21 – No doubt it was foul?: today I realised how difficult a referee’s job is. The pressure was huge. Right choices

02:52 – Ben white: Doesn’t look good at all.

03:13 – I feel so happy and relieved. We have to think about Burnley.

03:56 – Rice at right back?: We suffered because of his position. Sometimes you have to make a different change. With Zubi we needed two attacking midfielders.

04:41 – we created big chances, didn’t score and team needed to stay cool. We navigated through it.

05:19 – Trossard: A player that’s makes a difference for us. Recently he’s been really good. Phenomenal, made a difference.

05:44 – Raya save: Magic moment. Incredible.

  1. VAR controversy aside, must mention Martin Odegaard’s impact off the bench. Took the game by the scruff of the neck and he played a key role in Trossard’s winning goal ✨

  2. The reason we didn't really see the efforts of Martin Ødegaard in previous games was because he was doing double the work — both as an attacking midfielder and almost covering for Zubimendi in defensive midfield.

A lot of his work rate dragged him deeper to help with the build-up, and whenever he tried to play offensively, Zubimendi’s constant back passes pulled him backwards again.

Since Mikel Arteta unlocked the midfield with Myles Lewis-Skelly, the team would look tactically stronger if he drops Eberechi Eze and plays a Skelly–Rice–Ødegaard midfield trio instead. We would finally see more forward-flowing football from Ødegaard without him constantly dropping deep to help Skelly, because Skelly naturally plays progressive football and avoids unnecessary back passes.

Because honestly, Eze didn’t really “eze” me at all against West Ham today. He has been given enough playing time already, so it would be fair to drop him and allow Ødegaard to play alongside Skelly and Rice.

If we're being sincere, Odegaard is far better than Eze.

  3. Mikel, you nearly cost us this game after Ben white's injury.
Mosquera to replace White was no brainer.
Btw, let's win our next three remaining matches and win a historic double.
    COYG ❤❤❤.

  4. Different profiles made life easier. Too much of odegard and saka displays made us predictable but eze and madueke gave us options and when you bring back odegard in crucial moment were westham players were exhausted played a good deal

  5. This guy is a hypocrite and a rubbish manager imagine if it was the other way around he would be crying about it I can’t stand this Manager He’s definitely one of the worst managers I’ve seen
