[Gill] It is now 35 games out of 35 in which Chelsea’s players have been outrun by their opponents in the Premier League this season. The distances covered at Stamford Bridge on Monday, per Opta, saw the home side collectively run 107.5km, to Forest’s 110.9km.

Were they fitter under poch then? He was known as a hard trainer. What happened?

  2. Yeah that’s not great, but at the same time would that not be fairly common when the team has the majority of possession?

Now I’m starting to think that if you can get 11 of the people in this sub they can beat the actual squad

  4. Up there with most damning statistics about this squad. Really is unacceptable.

I’m curious about Man City or Arsenals version of this stat

  6. Does anyone have stats for individual players? Like who exactly are the main culprits of not running much that are supposed to…

  7. Not really a brilliant stat to judge our team on. When we were doing well (2nd after drawing to Arsenal in November), we were running less and now we’re doing poor, we’re still running less.

We’ve also played a significant amount of time (compared to the average) with less players (due to red cards) and our players also had no summer break with the CWC final.

Players like Palmer have had no rest since joining Chelsea (he had Euros 2024, CWC 2025 and potentially World Cup 2026).

Same can be said for Enzo and Caicedo as well, who up until this season, haven’t had a rest because the other midfielders have been injured for large portions of the season

I think the lack of preseason and summer break kinda messed us up. We are going to see something similar with the World Cup players next year. Guys are going to keep getting hurt.

Thats not the only reason though, a lot of this is just effort as well but I was worried about the squad legs at the beginning of the season. Never thought it would be this bad though

Wouldn’t the team with the highest ball possession % also have the lower kms run?

  10. I remember when Pochettino used to do Gacon test as a training. Feels like Maresca emphasised so much on positional play that our players became lazy to run.

This statistics doesn’t mean what people thinks it means.

Running a lot could show that you constantly working hard to regain the ball, or you’re out of position a lot.

  12. I saw a graph the other day with showed midfielders in the Premier League how far they run. This isn’t a dig at Fernandez because he’s our fittest player but even he was in the bottom 50%. Caicedo was near the bottom

Watch them play, they receive the ball and refuse to move with it. Always looking for a pass, usually backwards or sideways, a safe pass. No one runs with the ball or rarely dribbles, especially if an opposing player is in front of them. It is some of the worst football being played in the league! Likely padding stats for the nerd sporting directors…horrible football!
