It’s amazing how many upvotes that post has. ( I’m going to assume most premier league fan bases don’t make it deep in the cups and play in Europe so they aren’t familiar)
We didn’t have a game in hand last season because we did bad in Europe and they could schedule the games we missed due to the FA Cup midweek
It’s like people don’t realize we have games in hand largely because we go deep in the Cup competitions and that often requires our Premier League fixtures to be rescheduled
And because we’re usually also in Europe it’s not like you can easily put them midweek some random week
The issue this season with Crystal Palace is because they’re doing well in Europe we can’t just play them midweek on some random week
Eg. Perhaps we would be playing Crystal Palace this week midweek if neither of us were in Europe
But because Crystal Palace are in Europe it wouldn’t be fair to them to schedule a Premier League match midweek
Edit: also it’s not even an advantage to have games in hand in my opinion.
It leads to fixure congestion and that’s not good
