Embargoed post-match press conference with Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola after their 2-1 win over Southampton at Wembley Stadium in the FA Cup semi-final.

Finn Azaz gave Southampton the lead before Jeremy Doku equalised and Nico Gonzalez scored a late winner to send Manchester City into another FA Cup final.

Guardiola discusses the importance of rest, the need to use the full squad during a demanding run of fixtures, and how City must manage six games in 21 days.

He reflects on City’s consistency in reaching the final stages, praises the impact of players coming into the team, and highlights Erling Haaland’s freshness after rest.

Guardiola also praises John Stones, Nathan Ake and Matheus Nunes, saying Nunes is becoming one of the best right backs in the world defensively.

  1. The PFA needs to push the Bournemouth game closer before the 17th, because City plays the FA Cup final on the 16th. We also need to move the Crystal Palace game earlier, since it’s too much for the players to face Crystal Palace on the 22nd and then Villa on the 24th. Since City has 9 days until their next match against Everton on the 4th, we should move the Bournemouth match to April 30th. Both teams don’t have midweek fixtures, so we can then schedule the Crystal Palace game for either May 13th or May 20th. That would give us 25 days with 6 matches in between.

  2. "You have 6 games in 21 days, how important is it to have the squad?" – wow, what an insightful, well thought-out question totally worth asking. Truly one of the questions of all time.
