That pass from Curtis to Robbo against Palace? Pure filth. Vision, weight, timing – you can't teach that.

He is one of the league's best progressive midfielders (see the infograph). Look at the data. Curtis isn't just 'good' at progressing the ball, he is statistically the best in the league at it right now.

Yeah, granted, when he tries to be too cute in midfield and gets caught? Instant dangerous counter. That's the part he needs to cut out.

So why are there even rumors about letting Curtis go? Give him a proper contract, play him where he belongs, and build around him. He's homegrown, he gets the club, and when Mo and Robbo leave, we'll need that DNA more than ever.

Renew his contact. Play him right. Keep it simple.

Thoughts?

He needs to learn to stop taking so many touches, as a ‘Give and Go’ player he is effective but he has this frustrating part of his game where he thinks he can take six touches in a crowded midfield and when he is the last man he can leave your heart in your mouth!

are you talking about the wingback curtis jones?

i don’t want to say he’s better than trent but he is better for our defense

trent gave us key passes, cujo isn’t quite as adept but makes up for it with his ball control. he is quite good at passing

and the more important factor: he can pocket a winger conpletely.

  3. Curtis Jones keeps the ball under pressure, makes forward attacking passes, and does his damndest to win the ball in defense. That’s not Slot-ball!

  4. Not starting eleven level, but a solid squad option. He’s great to add an injection of energy as the game starts to reach the end, but there are so many options you could pick up that would get in on the market over him.

Of course, used in this capacity his stats are going to look as good as they do – but play over the full 90 throughout the season and you’ll be asking for him to not be played as often. I don’t get the Curtis hype really, he’s not a super special baller – he helps with the homegrown quota and as I mentioned squad depth but nothing more than that.

The problem I have with him is that is that he is also incredibly inconsistent, one game he can have a worldie – the next, he’s a total ghost. I’m not covering the fact that outside of Dom our midfield has been abysmal, but Grav needs someone to support him while Dom doesn’t have carry too much as he moves the ball on to our forwards. Safe to say that Mac’s gone in the summer for this exact reason.

I really don’t get the hype around him.

We have no choice to sell him if he doesn’t want to be a squad player because that’s all he’s ever going to be here.

  6. I’m still a huge Jones fan and hoping he can make it into a nailed starting 11 spot and a player we rely on.

But there must be a reason it hasn’t happened yet. This year he’s got a lot of minutes but has been mixed in games where he’s played midfield, better than Mac though but thats a different question.

Under Klopp he was never a nailed starter, only part of rotation. He’s never broken into the england squad really while playing enough minutes to be considered and it was only Inter in for him it seemed in Jan?

Now none of that doesn’t mean he can’t still make it, but starting to feel it won’t happen.

  7. One statistic doesn’t mean a fully capable player.

I normally hate people who shit on “stats” but in this case it’s warranted

  8. Hes not. Hes been here for years and hasnt nailed down a proper starting role but hes good for the squad role.

Hes veering into the territory of being overrated as he only looks great because Mac Allister has nosedived over the last year, Grav is living off that 6 month stellar run at 6 and all our RB options are made of glass.

We need to sign at least one proper DM and identify what to do at RB. Jones will be a rotation option as before, unless he wants to leave for more minutes he probably should. Those minutes will not be at a top 6 PL club though, hopefully he gets a european move rather going to Fulham or whoever

Nah, he can’t pass the ball without taking 10 touches. He’s a decent backup, nothing more
