I believe it’s all fake news and none of it will actually happen. Regardless, I think Italian fans—compared to the French, Germans, Dutch, or English (let alone the Spanish)—are truly the unluckiest and least enviable people in the universe.
Not only do they face the humiliation of missing three World Cups in a row while every other major nation is there—leaving a whole generation of Italians who have never even seen one—but now also have the indignity of hoping for a wildcard spot or some kind of handout from Trump**.**

But why Italy? If they are horrible enough to kick Iran out then it should be another Asian team qualifying since each federation has only so many spots. Europe is already the largest with 16 qualifiers so it would hardly be fair to give another.
To be clear it’s horrible that they’re even talking about it in the first place.

As an Italian with fond childhood memories of the azzurri, I will say that no self respecting Italian would want to go to the World Cup this way. This is all political theater. I actually hope Bosnia and Herzegovina do well at the World Cup and I’ll be supporting them. They outclassed us in an elimination match that Italy should have never been in. After three consecutive missed world cups, the FIGC needs to be fixed.
