**Manchester United are considering a summer move for Real Madrid’s Aurelien Tchouameni as the club assess their midfield options, the Press Association understands.**
Champions League qualification is within touching distance for the third-placed Red Devils, who boast an eight-point cushion and game in hand on sixth-placed Brighton.
United are facing a big summer as they look to kick on next term, including deciding whether to keep on Michael Carrick as head coach and how best to bolster their midfield.
It was announced in January that popular Casemiro will leave when his contract expires four years on from leaving Real, whose France international Tchouameni features on United’s list of targets.
The 26-year-old was linked to United, Liverpool and Paris St Germain before making a big-money move from Monaco to Madrid just two months before Brazil international Casemiro left for Old Trafford.
**United admire Nottingham Forest’s Elliot Anderson but reports suggest the England international favours a move to Manchester City. Brighton’s Carlos Baleba was a target last summer.**
**United would seemingly like to acquire two midfielders during a summer that Kobbie Mainoo looks set to head into having agreed a new and improved contract following positive negotiations.**
**[.]**
**Also:**
Jadon Sancho and Tyrell Malacia’s deals are set to expire at the end of this season as well as Casemiro. Tom Heaton’s contract is also up but an extension could be agreed for the veteran goalkeeper.
**There is doubt in Spain as to whether Barcelona will make Marcus Rashford’s move permanent,** while goalkeeper Andre Onana has spent the campaign on loan with Trabzonspor.
Rasmus Hojlund has impressed at Napoli, where his move will become permanent should they qualify for the Champions League.

Tchouameni is the April version of January’s Anderson, February’s Tonali and March’s Wharton

Are we doing a spirit bomb, collecting all the News stories together to hopefully buy Tchouameni?

Tchouameni, Tonali and a low budget Holding or DM (from Wolves or one of the other clubs about to be relegated or from else where). That would not be a bad CM window. Anderson we can already rule our i feel.

I really don’t want to be lured in, scared of the incoming contract extension. Praying I’m wrong

Realistically it’d cost us 70-90m plus an additional 250-300k weekly in wages
Maybe it’s worth it. But I’m not the biggest fan given the price

While we’re at it, we might as well consider summer moves for Vitinha and Lamine Yamal

Even if this in unlikely I am glad we aren’t putting all of our efforts into just Anderson like the De Jong disaster summer

Andy Mitten on TOTD has mentioned a few times that we have been looking at some players in Spain ‘who may not be happy at their clubs’ for our midfield. I assumed he was talking about Camavinga but maybe this is what he meant

Seems like we’re serious about addressing the midfield this summer. But I truly think we should spend nearly all of our budget on the midfield this summer like we did last year on the front line. Something like this:
Tchouameni – 100M
Wharton – 80M
Mateus Fernandes/Joao Gomes – 40-50M
Then I’d target Malick Diouf at LB or someone at RB for about 35M.
Anything else (e.g., CB, RB/LB, or forward) is icing on the cake.
But bringing in those three mids would change the trajectory of this club for the next 5 years.

No way he moves here (hopefully I get wrong). Feels like tactics from his side to get a juicy renewal

Club briefing? But why?

Mental gymnastics at play here for me but surely we wouldn’t be having all our top journalists bring him up, without a solid idea that he could be possible as a signing.
Though, I say that, this club does do fucking mental things even if the leadership and everyone involved is different, going as far as agreeing a deal with Barcelona for De Jong only to not manage to convince the player, for example.

I think this could be a smokescreen. A high profile Real Madrid player will keep the press busy while United go after more realistic targets.

If we need 3 midfielders then an expensive option like Tchouameni/Anderson level, a £50-60 mil option (maybe a good deal on Baleba) + a cheaper depth option like Hayden Hackney and we’re set.

Mods took the Stone report down, then Simon Peach from the top rope! Both are up now, entirely believable either as a way to tell Newcastle and Forest to get fucking real about their prices for Tonali/Anderson, or because Tchouameni already wants to join.
One thing is clear, we look poised to add some serious talent in midfield this summer and im excited.
