Nieve's takes on Southgate are more emotional than logical. This is elite sport. The aim of the game is to win. Uniting the nation can be done in different ways. The BEST way to unite the nation is to just win. That's it. Truth of the matter is, we have fallen short, again. We had the best squad (in terms of depth) in this tournament and it came down to tactical nouse being the main reason we lost. Goals came merely from individual player brilliance and manager tactical plans. This is evidenced by even Nieve suggesting we try to get a Klopp or Guardiola.

Southgate is partly to blame, but at some point, you gotta realize that England fans are partly delusional and the players you think are as good as they are, just aren't, which is a sad reality, but a reality nonetheless, watching games, EVERYTIME England go down they play pretty good football, why is it taking going down to play better, EVERYTIME England go up, they drop deep and defend, WHY? Watching the games its clear Southgate doesn't instruct his players to go defensive every time they score, but they just do, it gets to a point where, yes the manager way be inept, but supposed "world class" talent should perform regardless, Foden was abysmal this Euros, he gave England one 45 minute half all tournament, and Southgate let him play centrally more often than not and he didn't perform, this is not on the manager, when will people realize that there is players who are just not good enough outside a perfected system for them
