James Tavernier will leave Rangers at the end of the season

  1. If we’d consistently had players the level of Tav during his time, we’d have won a lot more. His biggest crime is having to play with donkeys the majority of his time with us.

Would love to know how many points he’s won us over the years.

  2. Like most players. He’ll be thought of far better when he is no longer at the club.

He is a club legend. While he has his faults, he’s been through it all at the club. Championship, 55, Europa League final, etc. he’s been crucial in all of them.

Tav with a better and settled team consistently around him. Would be talked about as one of our GOAT’s. Like I’ve said he isn’t perfect but his numbers don’t lie.

  3. I honestly hope he goes and gets a bag somewhere nice, then comes back to the club in an academy role of some sort. The younger lads love and absolutely adore him at the younger levels and we need someone like him to stick around in the future.

  4. I have my ups and downs with Tavernier but ultimately been a tremendous servant to Rangers. Yes, we should have won a lot more but it can’t all be attributed to just him. He is a bit of an easy target because he has been here so long. The failure to properly replace him has meant he has stayed here a little bit longer than he should have. He isn’t anywhere near the level he was but even still, he has managed a decent enough contribution. That ain’t his fault either, father time gets us all

Hopefully can end this on a high and win the League. Would be magic.

Knew it would come one day soon. What a servant to the club he’s been. Wish him all the best going forward and hope he goes to somewhere he can get minted.

One of the few modern day legends who for me goes down as our greatest right back in my lifetime (since 91).

We will miss him and his goals once he’s gone. So many rangers fans don’t appreciate just how crucial he is. The amount of goals or high pressure penalties that he has taken is incredible. I wish him all the best and hope he gets a juicy contract wherever he decides to go to.

  7. It’s a sad day.

Bring this title home for the captain and give him the ending he deserves Rangers!

Sad day but ultimately the right choice going forward. Hopefully see him go out on a high with the league title

  9. A sad day, some wont know what we had till it’s gone. A leader, legend, captain. Watp.

Ps – it’s the right time to go imo tho.

Only fanbase in the world that could have a guy do 10 years at the club and still find a way to slate him even after he announces he’s leaving. He’s had his ups and downs but ultimately the lack of success can’t be pinned on him. To see us go from the second division to stopping ten in a row and be within a penalty of a major European trophy, it must be said he’s had some brilliant moments. Hopefully those on here and Facebook realise just how much it takes to do what he’s done regardless of his wages.

  11. Don’t cry because it’s ending, smile because it happened.

    Forever my captain. Legend.

  12. Man is a legend for the club and will be sorely missed.

Whilst I would have liked him to retire at the club and move in to a coaching role, I think it is probably the right time for him and the club to move on player wise.

If he feels he still has a lot more to give playing wise then I hope he is able to grab a lucrative contract for his final years then comes back to us as a coach.

Always seemed likely but still gutting. Absolute legend let down by those around him.

  14. Timing feels right but hopefully he leaves on a high. What a servant he has been to the club!

  15. Genuine club legend

Carried the failures of the club on his shoulders and had every one of them laid at his door

It is the right time. I am praying he leaves with one more title

I hope history is kind to him.

For me he’s a club legend, albeit not during the best of times. He will be missed more than we realise.

“He won 55 undefeated is what he did. He was a brave Rangers captain. And in this house James Tavernier is a legend. End of story.” – Me, 2046.

The time is right for Tav to move on, hopefully finishing on a high. He has always carried himself with dignity and been a great leader and figurehead for the club. He should have won more, but that’s not solely on him and I doubt anyone can question his commitment. I hope the squad redouble their efforts so that Tav’s last action as Rangers captain is lifting the SFPL trophy.

  19. A club legend no matter what. I only hope when time passes history will look back on his time with joy!

I feel quite sad reading his post, but do feel if it wasn’t this year it would be next year. Danny keeps saying he wants a young squad, so let’s hope this news doesn’t unsettle the team, but galvanises them to “do it for tav”

  21. I’m fucking devastated, knew this day would come but how do you replace this man, always available, always committed, always in the big moments and crucially a goal contribution machine.

It’s the right time for him but I fucking hope this team delivers this season for him

A part of me thought he would leave a few years ago after having a pretty poor season, but I appreciate he probably doesnt want to leave on a massive low like that.
His form improved and he won back some kf the fans who had changed their opinion on him but there is always that polarising element of his game, if his attacking prowess justifies the teams defensive structure, and the questions over his status as a leader as club captain.

I hope it was his decision and not one that was made for him.
I hope he gets a good send off in the summer, hopefully with a title and I hope he gets the move he wants, either back to England, or abroad for a big pay day.

The club and the various managers sporting directors, heads of recruitment or whoever has been dealing with signing players has been hit and miss over the years, but under the current lot we signed well in the window with Rommens an improvement on Meghoma (who has grown through the season and was unfortunate to lose his place), Chukwuani has strengthened the midfield and despite current injury and not a massive amount of goals, Naderi looked good and seemed to be a catalyst for the attackers to collectively up their numbers so I think we can get a good replacement in the summer – but fuck me, they have big shoes to fill

He goes with my best regards. I wish he had more trophies but he’s been a great servant for us. Always available and always gives it 100%.

It is time to look to the future now, his best days are behind him so imo this is the correct decision for everyone.

Just do us one last turn, Tav.

    Get this title.
