[OptaJoe] 4 – Arsenal have lost four consecutive games in domestic league/cup competitions for the very first time under Mikel Arteta, and first time overall since March 2018 – a run which also included two defeats to Manchester City. Stumbling.

How do we keep losing games in batches under Arteta
Historical choke, amazing really. Almost an accomplishment of sorts
Honestly I never really like football anyway, this has no effects to me
Our form is dire atm. I don’t expect us to win out. City may not either but more likely to do so at this point
Has to go. Does not have what it takes to take us over the line this guy
embarrassing is what it is
Genuinely: if we don’t win either the league or CL, it’s arguably the all-time worst bottle job in modern football.
This run has been revealing. It has revealed that this group of players are a bunch of losers, and so is the manager.
This is the best he can do, time to move on from him. It would be a real tragedy if he remains our manager next season.
Insane that it gets to April and we just choke every year, we don’t have the mentality of champions, they can’t seem themselves as champions so they bottle it.
Also: there’s no chance we go again in the league next season if we fail to win it this time. This manager and group of players don’t have another title battle in them. Far too much of a mental and physical toll after four years of second places. I’d wager we’d be fighting for top 4 at best next season.
Legendary collapse tbh. Potentially lost 3 trophies in the span of 4 games. Just doesn’t seem like the players, manager, and club think they can win, or just don’t have the mental fortitude to handle literally any pressure at all.
Continuing to set records 🙏🔥
As a fan, you really want to believe, and I’m sure we all do, but bruh seriously. We are losing, we have no momentum, and, we have been poor.
I wonder, is this how it’s supposed to be? Are we as fans supposed to suffer like this? Is this what it takes to win the Premier League? Is this what it takes to win a trophy? So many emotions.
What a time for this record ffs
It’s okay! This is the worst City in years and we’re still top of the league, amirite????
4 games and the entire season is gone.
We go next season and it doesn’t matter, we could be 20 points clear, you know we will still bottle it. How are we such losers. What the fuck have City fans done to deserve this.
I think this is why all the talk of “they played well today, just repeat that performance for the remainder of the season” after this match rings as complete hopium to me. I mean, I hope they do. But today’s performance completely contradicts what they’ve been putting out of late, to the point that it leads me to conclude that they got themselves really hyped up for this match.
And frankly, I think that’s damning about the mentality of the team, though it fits with exactly how we play the matches on the pitch. Dither dither dither concede, oh shit now we gotta go for it. Today’s match was an “oh shit, now we gotta go for it” match.
I’m not expert enough to know how he does it, but Pep has absolutely cracked the Prem (no shit). I mean in the sense that they look unsettled and out of sorts for a bunch of the season only to cohere into a menace after the turn of the year. This will age like milk if they drop a few clangers in the run in, but they’ve come into strength at the very moment that our intense style has us injured and exhausted. We’re on completely different trajectories and it’s not the first time.
To me, this is because Pep spends the first half of the season tinkering around with his approach, seeing what works with the group he has. His squads are talented (expensive) enough that it’s usually not overly costly to them. It’s an oversimplification to say that Arteta does the opposite, but it feels like he has a predetermined style and tries to browbeat his players into fitting it.
That and I think our recruitment should come in for massive scrutiny. Buying Madueke only to see Semenyo move in January is brutal.
ETA: Does anyone realistically see Arteta having a massive change in approach next season? Do we see him somehow become more pro-attack? Because that’s my big reservation.
Mentally weak bottlejobs and, unfortunately, it starts with Arteta. We wouldn’t be able to beat an MLS team if there was something on the line.
Pretty simple really. Just not good enough without an elite Saka. Arsenal don’t have that talisman player and I don’t remember the last time a team won the prem without an elite option in attack
I think at this point it would be easier to assume that we blew it and go with that. Otherwise one can lose their minds until the end of the season
After nearly 20 years of watching the Prem, this season has started to break me. Not even just witnessing this absolute train wreck while playing the ugliest football ever seen on our end, but watching the rest of the league basically begging to get cucked by the personification of purchasing success. United “supporters” cheering City goals and Spurs fans making comments about preferring relegation to us winning a title is just breaking my brain.
How some people are just coming to this realizing is beyond me. You could see this way back since January when the football started getting really dark. The cowardly setup , terrible rooster utilization, lack of seriousness in the transfer market & over reliance on set pieces which frankly defanged our attack.
Massive issues were pointed out but he was too stubborn to adapt. How Zubimendi played almost every game this season when he was at the centre of 6-7 crucial goals we conceded this season is beyond me.
I really wanted us to clinch major silverware this season but this was all too predictable.
We were 97% favorites to win the league a few weeks ago.
He needs more time, just one more season
We’ve also gotten further than we have in over 20 years. They played well and held their own very well given the injury list and how many minutes players like Rice have been doing.
the problem isn’t losing away to city. it’s losing to Bournemouth, dropping points against wolves and Brentford, etc etc
if we bungle our league win, the loss of the carabao finals might very well be looked back as the moment it all came crashing down
