Servus, Bayern fans.
I’m writing to you from Vancouver, Canada. Our club that developed Alphonso Davies and the one that currently puts its captain armband around Thomas Müller, is facing the threat of relocation to another market.
Our club, the Vancouver Whitecaps, is currently facing a very real threat of relocation. In North America, we don't have the legal protections German clubs do.. Our owners can decide to erase fifty years of history and move our club to another country overnight.
Our supporters group has launched the #SaveTheCaps movement to fight for our right to exist and to keep our club in the hands of the city that built it.
I am asking for your solidarity and for you to help us spread the word. We want to ensure that we can develop more players like Alphonso Davies and represent our club and country on the biggest stages.
Football belongs to the fans. Whether in Munich or Vancouver, I hope we can lean on you to help us spread the word. Please use #SaveTheCaps in any way you can. Thank you.

I’m so glad FC Bayern Munich is owned by the club and not by one billionaire or foreign investor. I am also glad that we don’t have the franchise system.

Importantly, this is the franchise system. Every team is made to be financially viable, and if it’s not it folds or moves. Vancouver is a moderately niche market, but large enough in Canada it made sense when the team was founded. I hope that after the world cup it’ll pick up, but also FIFA is doing its best to fuck the world cup nations. North America will likely never have the same history behind teams as Europe. Bayer Leverkusen coming from workers at the Bayer plant, or Bayern being founded by just a group of guys won’t exist in North America, as far as getting to the top division, because of the financial costs associated with being in the MLS.

I would love it if Bayern could buy 50% to prevent that. I know, sounds ridiculous, but I’d love it.
Well this stinks. I’m also a Sounders fan and they are an arch rival! I would hate to see them go. I was sad to see Müller my fav Bayern player ever move there and not here. Caps are a big part of the Cascadia Cup rivalry! (Named for the mountains that run north to south here in the Northwest). Soccer up here has a good following, is very heated between Seattle and Portland and Vancouver…usually those games have big attendances. The NW have massive fan bases for US soccer numbers. This rivalry must stay…
