Been thinking that the worst thing we can do after tomorrow is overreact. We win or draw, and there’s still some horrible fixtures left in the midst of a CL run.

We lose – it’s not curtains, we have a week off before Newcastle and our hardest fixtures are done.

Personally think we’ll lose so the reaction is really important.

Why live in fear when you can live with hope? Tomorrow is going to be the best day in our history for over 20 years. Coyg

tbh if we lose the prem is over…. that said coyg. for some reason i woke up thinking about nelson vs bournemouth, didn’t realize it was 3 years ago but taking it as a good omen

  4. Might be a wrap for totnum if they lose today. Forest and West Ham’s remaining fixtures are not that bad.

Between his equaliser vs City and creating the tie winning goal vs Sporting, Nelli might just have shout as our most clutch contributor of the season if we win something. Like it or not – he’s imperfect, inconsistent, but the kid deserves more respect for what he’s doing for us.

  6. Arteta said that one day his project will go boom. I think that time is now. I hope it’s now. He deserves a ton of credit for the squad he has built, the culture, and the title challenges and deep runs in cup competitions. That being said, players can only be world class for a limited time. And then they get older. Injuries happen. Then you have to rebuild, which is not easy. It takes a lot of resources and time and you never know when you will get it right again. Things can also change dramatically. Spurs had a top team that took them to a CL final less than a decade ago. Another year of wear and tear with nothing to show for it would not be a step in the right direction.

I found Arteta’s sit down interview with sky sports very interesting. He said whilst trophies are important, this group of players don’t need them for validation but the trophies will be coming, but it is a process.

I think that kind of message is important to help the players to relax. The players almost want it too much so sending the message out that they don’t need major trophies for validation will help them to relax and play their natural games without nerves

Everyone focuses on the attackers too much. Concede nothing and we get a good result, it’s that simple

Arteta built this team around the idea of being the best defensive unit in the world and that’s what we need to show tomorrow

  9. Been a bit of a pessimist after Bournemouth and Sporting, and thats on me.

But thats over now, the boys need our support – tomorrow we’re gonna shock everyone, City and ourselves included. COYG

A draw would be a great result in the context but I feel like this is a must win game if we really want to change the mentality and get over the line. Effectively seals the league and would give a major boost in the CL. Just in general, it would be big for the narrative of the club which for a long time has been that the club never wins when it matters

I think if we keep it tight for 75 mins the pressure is on City to win and we could capitalise on that

  11. People who don’t like the idea of Alvarez up front because he can’t win aerial duels as if we haven’t watched Gyokeres fail to do that all season.

Alvarez would work as an outlet even against physical defenders because his technique is so good, he can pull the ball out of the sky and find someone to break pressure.

I’m not completely married to the idea of him and how much he’d cost, but there’s clearly so much scope for increasing the technical level of the team and introducing players like him who can create magic out of nowhere. Even if he has to drop deep at times to get the ball I can only see that helping us out.

I’ve watched Gyokeres for 8 months I deserve to watch someone who can play

I thought long and hard about this, and this is thr team I’d pick:

    Raya

    Mosquera, Saliba, Gabriel, Hincapie

    Eze, Rice, Zubi

    Martinelli (RW), Havertz, Jesus (LW)

Defensively we’re solid, not much needs to be said

Martinelli RW so he can track O’Reilly better than anyone and he can come into the box for Hincapie crosses. Yes Jesus doesn’t have consistent end product but I’ve seen enough from his cameos to know he’ll cause chaos on the LW and he’s physically decent to win duels. Havertz gives us more control and he wins duels.

I don’t wanna see us pass short from Raya, just go long and bully them. Elbows in faces that kinda thing. Win the ball , spring Martinelli into action.

How I see this going is, I can see us having a 1 v 1 early in the game, could be Martinelli but he misses. Then it’s a tough watch for a bit. Honestly can see this 0-0 or 1-0 either way. If we score first, I could see City scoring to make it 1-1, if City score, they’ll probably win 1-0. We probably need to score from our first opportunity because we won’t get many and it could be too late when we get another, which unfortunately we won’t do.

  13. Biggest game since PSG second leg last year, than before that is probably the 06 final

  14. It’s official: I cannot stop thinking about the City game. Going to be thinking about all weekend.

  15. Our u21s are also going to be playing a crucial game against Man City soon. They’ll presumably get smoked though, especially because Salmon and Dowman are unlikely to be available.
