“I would have liked to keep him, but he asked me to sell him. There was the opportunity to go to Roma and I’m happy for him, he’s an excellent player and I’m convinced he can have a great career at Roma.”

Unai Emery on Donyell Malen

Not exactly surprising from the news already out there but nonetheless it's coming from the horses mouth now that Malen left at his own request, not because we pushed him out.

I hope he continues to smash it at Roma, but no regrets on our end, if he didn't want to fight for a place with the World Cup around the corner that's understandable.

Guess he made the right call.. he seems to be flourishing in Rome, and wasn’t gonna be a consistent starter it seemed

He was still “pushed out” by not getting any time. I wouldn’t be surprised if Maatsen follows suit in the summer since it’s clear that Emery won’t play him.
