First off, I’m incredibly proud of him. He’s had to go away and prove himself all over again after the Everton spell and his time here as caretaker, and he’s done exactly that. It’s also great to see Coventry back in the top flight, brings back all my 90s nostalgia and I’ve always had a soft spot for them since they let us play in their away shirt.
At the same time, I can’t help but worry about what comes next. Coventry are a side who, realistically, shouldn’t have been promoted. Their squad isn’t quite there, and they could easily end up being next season’s whipping boys. The Derby record could be in real danger of being broken.
Part of me almost hopes Lampard steps away from the role and uses this momentum to secure another position where he can continue to develop. The talent is clearly there, but given how things have gone before, you do wonder how many more chances he’ll get before people start writing him off. You only have to look at another ex-blue in Scott Parker: excellent in the Championship, but unable to make it stick in the Premier League.

Great stuff.
Had a feeling he would succeed, just the Chelsea job was too much too soon.

Fantastic post match interview on Sky. Very eloquent, almost started crying, humble and passionate.

An absolutely fantastic achievement as a non parachute payment team.
I’ve followed them all season and they’ve been class. They’re nothing close to the Burnley and Leicester teams that came up playing attractive, technical football but they’ve got amazing resilience, good centre backs (Kitching and Thomas is a good pairing), fast wingers and some solid midfielders (Onyeka, Grimes and Sakamoto offer a good balance). Also they’re fantastic at pieces – these are all things that Sunderland and Leeds have used to be the first set of promoted teams to stay up in a while.
Be interesting to see what comes next. Happy for Lamps – no matter what anyone says about his managerial credentials (you’ll have the usual crowd like Massive-Nights come along to shit on him), he’s had the courage and conviction to go to the Champaionship and earned the right to have another crack in the Premier League.
