Hi everyone, I’m working on an academic project analyzing Inter’s midfield structure for the 2025/26 season.
I mapped out all possible combinations for a 3-man midfield (LCM–CDM–RCM) using players like Çalhanoğlu, Barella, Mkhitaryan, Frattesi, Zieliński, Diouf, and Sučić. The idea was to explore every possible trio, but also understand which ones actually make sense tactically.
Before I go deeper into the analysis, I wanted to check with people who follow the team closely:
- Are these positional assignments realistic?
- Am I misplacing anyone (for example using someone on the wrong side or role)?
- Which combinations would you consider viable and which ones are unrealistic?
Any feedback or corrections would help a lot 🙏

Frattesi CDM 💀
I think the only credible alternative to Chalha/Zielinski as CDM is Barella
Diouf at CDM lol. For me the only CDMs are Hakan and Barella.
To be fair, Hakan was considered an attacking mid when he came to Inter and somehow they managed to become a CDM on par with Brozovic. I think the CDM position at the top level is less about destroying and more about ball retention and incisive passing.
Diouf could maybe become a top CDM but I would be surprised. His strength is dribbling.
The leg work behind this…
I never want to see Frattesi play for inter tbh
