Nizaar Kinsella: Fernandez is among several players seeking improved terms at Stamford Bridge, alongside Colwill and Malo Gusto, with midfielder Caicedo agreeing a lucrative new deal on Thursday. Chelsea are hopeful of agreeing one or two more deals before the end of the season.

  1. – However, with contract talks on hold until the summer, according to Fernandez’s entourage, the alternative scenario is more problematic.

    – Chelsea sources indicate it would take a substantial fee close to the club-record sale that saw Eden Hazard join Real Madrid in 2019 for an initial £88m rising to £130m in add-ons – for any deal to be considered.

    – Chelsea’s most recent accounts show more than £200m was charged in amortisation costs during the 2024-25 season, effectively reflecting money owed on previous transfers. That figure limits the club’s ability to recruit replacements.

    – However, there is now less scope to spend aggressively, with long-term liabilities running for years to come. That could limit the club’s capacity to take advantage of more relaxed rules elsewhere in the Premier League.

    – From 1 July, new squad cost ratio rules will be introduced. While the first season effectively serves as a free hit, as enforcement is not applied in full, rivals may find it easier to rebuild – while Chelsea face a far narrower financial tightrope

“lucrative deal” – A deal that is still less than he’d get paid at any other top club if the 180k-190k~ figure is true

colwill is a difficult one. i don’t think he deserves a better contract, but i would hate to see he at another club especially if he becomes world class.

  4. Weird, everyone on this sub is moaning about players leaving us because we don’t offer enough.

Now there’s news about a load of players signing, and everyone is moaning about them not deserving it haha.

I hate our owners, and they are completely incompetent. But our players signing new deals is nothing but positive. (Even if everything else is shit right now)

you Gusto haters are goofy. when we play to his weaknesses he looks bad — okay this is true of literally all of our players lmao

    – Palmer when double marked through the middle/playing off the left/etc

    – caicedo during Poch suicidal defense setup season

    – Enzo as a 6 having to screen and defend transitions

    – Reece isn’t great in midfield receiving with his back to goal

…And these are our best players lol.

Gusto for all his flaws does have a lot of strengths and is an important player for us. we need runners and he is a great one. his one on one defending is underrated. and we know that we can’t count on Reece to play consistently and especially not 50+ games a year.

He is clearly a premier league level player. even is he’s not a WC fullback he is a fantastic player to have in the squad #stopgustohate

  6. I don’t think anyone deserves a contract. Colwill needs to bring himself back to his old level. Enzo has done well, but he is not unreplaceable. Both enzo and gusto should be transfered

  7. Colwill hasn’t shown enough yet imo, and it would be silly to offer improved terms following a serious injury like he had. He knows how to pass but his defending is still dodgy

  8. Well based on recent financial reports, we most definitely have the funds for it…

  9. Enzo leaving would feel like a complete restart of the process. Instead of Palmer FC we become ‘injured Palmer FC’ but with a division 2 manager.
