  1. Would love Wharton, fine with selling Macca, but Jones leaving would be insane to me. Just a nonsense decision.Ā

Wharton sounds fine, then you realize what a Wharton-Gravenberch looks like defensively/going backwards. Does Wharton help our ball progression issues? Probably. But he’s injury prone and neither he nor Gravenberch can track runners. Have everyone liked our midfield getting run through every game? With Wharton and Gravenberch this gets worse. And no, Gravenberch isn’t going anywhere because he just got the big extension.

  3. If we loose both Jones and Mac Alister then I hope we see more than just “a midfield signing”.

  4. Think we get him. Arsenal got Zubimendi, city will likely get Elliot Anderson. Maybe Real Madrid will be in for him after camavinga goes?

  5. Wharton is quality but I have serious concerns over this persistent groin issue of his. I’d sooner go for Anderson (though he’s likely Manchester-bound) or Scott.

  6. 2 possible outgoings…. 1 possible replacement.

Why do we keep doing this? We need depth

Should’ve done this last summer. Guehi was always the most important signing but the whole summer focused on Isak

Yes please. It’s mad to me that Slot can’t get the best out of Jones or Mac Allister though.

We need fabinho type midfielder, especially gravenbrech playing as 8/10 this season

  10. If you could buy your way out of this we wouldn’t be in it.
    He already spent millions.

  11. I’ve seen this movie before. Hopefully, we close the deal, instead of fumbling over 5 million…

  12. Hard to image selling Maca without a confident replacement.

Maca is suffering from the Wiljnaldum syndrome, where his contributions are being disrespected. I also noticed that he (like Gini) can connect his head to a cross and bail us out on occasion, which is nice too. Lastly, he’s constantly in the crunch of the game, constantly getting fouled, or he’s putting pressure on their MF. Unless we’re bringing in someone who’s as good as Maca as it his best, but even more reliably I can’t see this going through.

He’s definitely had a bad season, but he started the season late, missed pre-season and, very few have had a good season this year. I wouldn’t turn give up on him just yet.

  13. Does he even play as a 6? Feels like he’s more of an 8. I’d prefer Anderson if we are looking for an 8 but pretty sure he’s City bound

Ha yes getting a defensively bad midfielder will solve our defensive midfielder issues. Sure.

  15. Honestly selling Jones is like selling part of the clubs soul. We should absolutely keep him. He’s a good squad player to have

  16. He gives us something massive that was lost with Trent leaving and Robbo taking more of a secondary role: ball progression via passing. Gravvy is a dribbler, Frimpong (should be a winger and not a RB) and Kerkez can’t pass very well. It’s not a strength of Ibou. So that basically left Virg and – when healthy – Ali as guys who could progress the ball in the back 6. It’s also why so many of us have been begging for Curtis to get a run. But it basically broke the whole system (along with injuries). So it would be a great signing and I think should come cheaper than last summer, too

There’s so many players I’d love us to sign from existing premier league clubs. I’d be very uneasy signing more players from abroad.

Gray, VDV, Anderson, MGW, Wharton, Sanesi

  18. Gray, Bergvall, Anderson or Wharton are a must no matter what, even if no one leaves. If macca leaves, then we need 2.

  19. 🤣🤣 what ? We don’t even need him. We just need a destructive midfielder like caicedo, wharton comes out sort of a 8 or more of a distribution/, passing first. Someone like a joao gomes from wolves for cheap would come good or anderson if we want to spend big which seems unlikely , mateus fernandes is also great

Yeeeeees, please let this come through. I’ve been vouching for this move so hard last year. That said, I don’t see why either Jones or Macca leaving would benefit us.

  21. We need a tackler! Please Lord above gravenberch and Wharton are clearly 8s. Why do we feel the need to shoehorn 8s and 10s into every midfield position

  22. Am ok with this but he’s gonna cost a lot. Selling macca will help but don’t think it’s enough

  23. Unfair_Dragonfruit49 on

The midfield of Wharton and Writz lacks intensity, impressive in possession but shows little intensity off the ball

  24. Not a fan of Jones leaving.

Forget how good he is for a second. He’s home-grown at club which in priceless for squad reg rules in Europe.

He’s worth more to us than any club should be willing to offer for that reason alone.
