"I look at Romero, I look at Van de Ven … They just aren't reaching their level," he said. "Again, not for a period, but actually for an entire season.

"Then I also look at Romero who gets red cards too often, doesn't make the right decisions and therefore lets his team down."

Spot on. Both capable of playing at a really high level and they’ve been average all season. Would be gutted to see them go in the summer but just looks like they’re not bothered and don’t want to be here anymore

Wow, not often that recent former players come out and say something as scathing as that.

They’ve both fallen off a truck, they aren’t the same players they were last season, even when we were 17th last season, they were still miles the best thing about the squad, now, it’s like they’re bodies have given up on them.

I doubt he’d accept it without a fuss but can’t we just move VDV to left back where his mistakes are less of a problem and his pace gets more use? The man is undeniably a marauder

I think the red card thing with Romero is an overblown issue, the media likes to talk as if he’s this undisciplined thug and the refs fully bought into that narrative when he’s about average for a PL defender. The bigger issue here for us, and this applies to VdV as well, is their lack of concentration and fight when things don’t go our way. He’s our captain and it seems like all season if we concede first, his head drops, and it’s all downhill from there. I feel like we can’t rely on him to push the team to turn things around.

  6. The reality of it is that both aren’t anywhere near as good as we act or they believe.

  7. They are both shit? Neither can properly defend and need a class team around them so they don’t have to and so they can look good when Romero crunches int a tackle or VDV sprints somewhere. Both can’t do the basics which is a big reason why we are where we are

I think its midfield problem for us,leaves them exposed but on the other end can’t create for shit. They will shine in other teams once they leave

Tbf vdv before like march was comfortably our best player this season it’s only now after his inflated ego has become obvious that he has been shit for us
