Eghbali on Maresca’s Departure: “The change wasn’t the club’s decision, for reasons I can’t speak about legally. I think the reasons will become kind of clear in due course. But no, it’s not a change we wanted to make. It’s a change that’s had a bit of a negative impact on the season.”

“A bit”?
From [cfcnewspage](https://www.instagram.com/p/DXNVaoqghe5/?utm_source=ig_web_copy_link&igsh=NTc4MTIwNjQ2YQ==) on Instagram:
Chelsea’s Behdad Eghbali to CAA’s World Congress of Sports (part 2/2):
🤔 On Liam Rosenior:
“On Liam, we had the opportunity to work with him daily for 18 plus months, so we knew what we were getting. We think he has every attribute to be successful here. He got off to a great start. We’ve had a tough past five, six matches, but I think we’re behind Liam. Of course, it’s a results business, but we think he can be successful long term.”
👀 On the summer plan’s ahead:
“The view was to recruit and build elite players that can, frankly, be together and have that stability in the squad. We’re still in the 40th, 50th minute of that process.
“But the view is to keep, sign and retain and compensate and extend some of the world’s best players, and ultimately the view was you need, eight, 10, 12, 15 elite players to win and win sustainably, year after year.
“I think we’ve done a few things right, a lot of things right. We’ve got to be better on a few things, to add more ready-made players at this part of the project, to take (it) to the next level, to be consistent over time.
“We recognise we need balance. We have world champions, we have Champions League winners, we have elite, elite young players. Experience has developed now. The team has been together for two or three years. The objective is to keep your best players, and we’ve done that, and there’s no intention to rebuild every three or four years. You tweak a model, you improve, you learn from mistakes.
“Our goal is to have elite, elite players on the pitch, elite characters off the pitch that our fans can bond with, that will be at the club, that will be club legends for the next 10 or 15 years and beyond. I think, generally, we’ve been fortunate, not in getting everything right, but we do have a core (of) good players, global players. Cole Palmer, Moises Caicedo, Enzo Fernandez, Levi Colwill, Estevao Willian, Reece James.
“The view is now that we’re here with a great core base, to add some of that experience, to take the team to the next level and have consistency. That fact is not lost on us, and we’re at a point where we can take that next step, hopefully in the next year and beyond.“
And people will act like we got rid of him. Liking the new direction the club is taking lately. Hopefully the recruitment is as good as the talk

I do believe that they did not want to “fire” Maresca however he left/resigned after problems you created that made his job harder.
And I do believe Maresca used the city links as a tactic which is fair
This guy sucks.
When you make someone’s job unnecessarily more difficult then they are more likely to leave or speak out.
You’re not fooling anyone. Just cut your losses and GTFO of our club.
BLUECO OUT🔵🔵🔵🔵🔵
> elite players
> liam delap
Real vote of confidence there for Liam, bud.
It really irks me that none of the board or sporting directors will actually face the media. Instead they do these staged conference fireside chats. When clubs move to a sporting director model in the rest of europe the sporting directors face questions from the media. We get our learning on the job manager thrown to the wolves and one of the owners answered canned questions at the “World Congress of Sports”

Maresca quit on the team mid season. Never seen anything like it.
The guy probably asked for a central defender and they told him to fuck off
Is the reason gonna become clear when he joins city? Probably because he wasn’t backed at the club and he went somewhere where he will be
PR not strong enough to counter the protest on the 18th April 2026.
People blame Blue Co but a coach quit on his team mid season. There is no excuse for that ever. He could have left at the end of the season. I was a big Maresca fan but fuck that guy. Giant fucking hypocrite to quit in HIS team when it got really hard.
Hmm, did Maresca already secretly get the City job? Or Juventus? If not, then WTF is this guy expecting to happen?

Guessing by this he means Maresca will be taking the Manchester City job and it’s more concrete than first thought.
His actions don’t support what he says. I’m not saying he’s a liar he might be delusional, it’s hard to know for sure.
I am no defender of our ownership whatsoever but I think it’s VERY clear what happened. Maresca received word through back channels that Pep was gonna leave, and he was wanted as a replacement. Why force your new team to have to pay a fee to your old club? Just quit. City will probably give him a bigger signing bonus or some shit to make up for it.
Maresca is a clown for quitting. When he lines up for City in game 1 next August that will be clear.
I thought the coach didn’t have any impact on results? PR machine spinning round and round and these guys can’t remember their own lies.
You’re gonna bring me Potter, Bruno, Lampard, Poch, Maresca, Calum, and Rosenior, over less than 4 seasons, and I’m supposed to consider you serious about this club? BlueCo OUT! Seriously, look at those names. Absolute disgrace.
the fact that he said he can’t talk about it legally probably means city tried (or did) tap him up
This was a decent interview. I’m hopeful the ownership can keep learning from their mistakes and they saying they will buy more ready made players is a good sign they’re listening to some of the protests an recognising what we need on the pitch as well
