Love rice, but the last few weeks have shown how important our real captain is for this squad
Edit: Just to be clear – I think this squad cannot do without rice, saliba, Gabi and the likes. And I love rice for everything he brings to this team. But the disrespect for odegaard is sad to see. He’s clearly one of the most respected individuals in the team. For those bashing his fitness – let’s not forget he could press 90 mins every 3 days for the last few seasons without an issue. His injuries aren’t even muscular, just sheer bad luck – starting with the shit ankle injury on international duty to this year’s shoulder injury followed by the nasty knee collision. Instead of feeling for him we have this weird fetish of believing he’s let the team down. Sorry just not good enough from the fans here

I got the impression with Rice post-match yesterday that his responses were very political, which is fine, he’s the captain on the night after all.
I know he was very ill the day before but even factoring that in, his body language was at complete odds with his words. I think he knows damn well that was yet another piss poor performance, and fully expect some truths to be told by him in the aftermath.

Odegaard is the captain! Saka is the vice. They’ve been here from the very start. When we were nothing. Sadly some of you have the memory of a dingleberry

“My captain” all he does is hide during our build up play and contributes creatively in open play.
I get it he’s crucial to what we do but the narrative that he’s our best player like we’re some kind of team that absolutely needs him is getting a bit out of hand. If anything we’d probably play better football if he was to pass it forward more often and stops dwelling on the ball.
He’s not a 6 anymore he’s given freedom to go forward and his numbers aren’t good enough.

I love Rice. He has been absolutely World Class for us. He had a great personality too. But not my captain. Ode is. Unless the players and the manager remove him.
Not gonna be persuaded otherwise, by all the English Fans with xenophobic inclinations.

He badly needs condidence in his left foot passing.
Until Arteta or players vote against Ødegaard, he is always my Capitan. I love Rice and his wirk rate and commitment. But core of Gabriel-Saka-Ødegaard have been with us when we are shite, they have played and suffered, bled so much for us, I remember Arteta playing Ødegaard till 90+ minutes, refusing him to sub in 2023-24 season. Even though injuries hampered his form and flow, he still has a lot to give to this club. He will come back and lift title for us. At least core players like Ødegaard deserve that much for what they did

I mean, the straight of fetishing of Rice as captain by parts of the online arsenal-fandom is just weird.
I just dont get why this section of fans are unable to lift up a player that is great, without pulling down another player that also is great.
Rice is great, and we would miss him if he’s gone. Ødegaard is great, and it is quite clear that the attack have missed him this year. The same applies to Saka. Neither of these facts diminishes the contributions of the others.

Yh because you’re smarter than the professionals who pick their captain. You don’t know what goes on in the dressing room, training or team dinner etc but because odeegard is not shouting his lungs out like prime maldini you think he’s not a captain ok buddy

It took Arteta three years to realise something the fans already knew from the start: we need a more vocal, commanding captain, not a soft one like Odegaard.

Honestly the first stone captain in this team in the last decade+. For the longest time it’s lost its meaning in the club. Arteta better not remove the damn thing from his arm.

We have many leaders on the pitch. Ø, Saka, Gabi, and Declan. The can all be captains on a team, but if O is on the pitch, he’s our captain.

We have a leadership group and it’s very clear Rice is the most vocal and ‘traditional leader’ role of them all, and because he fills that role he’s obviously gonna be popular with the fans. Yet even he says, when asked who the club captain is, even Dec says ‘Odegaard’. I think the captain debate is stupid overall, it’s very clear the squad has multiple leaders of different personalities who set the tones, and they are the ones who decide not the manager or club. We should count ourselves lucky we have multiple captains and leaders in this squad, because in the not too distant past we had a bunch of hiders who wouldn’t stand up for anything.

The captain debate always fascinates me. I can’t think of anything I could care about less than who’s wearing the armband
World class players like Rice wouldn’t have come here if we didn’t reach the level our captain has brought us.
No ones replacing the REAL captain.
