How shocking! First Reyes and now another club legend lost in this horrible way. Condolences and love to Manninger’s family and loved ones

RIP. He was massive for us in the title run in 1998 – without him we may not have won any trophy that year. HIs penalty shoot out save against west ham is an enduring memory – amazing moment.

  3. Horrible horrible news. May he rest in peace and may his family find peace.. ๐Ÿ˜ข๐Ÿ˜ž

One of our best second goalkeepers. This guy had to fill in for David Seaman in a title run in and kept 6 clean sheets in a row. RIP.

  5. Horrible, horrible news. RIP

I do have a funny story about Alex. When I was 11 I was able to spend a day at London Colney after requesting a trip via the Make a wish foundation.

After watching the training and having lunch with the squad, Alex fell asleep on one of the sofas. The chef pulled me over and we both hid behind the sofa while the chef tickled his feet leaving Alex a bit confused while others were laughing watching along.

I do have a photo of it somewhere in my parents loft but not to hand today.

Horrendous news. Was at Arsenal five years but felt like more than that. For a generation of Arsenal fans he was the backup keeper of our childhoods.

Always have fond memories of Alex during that 97-98 title win. Massive for us. Such tragic news and young too, RIP Alex, you always be a Gunner.

  9. Truly awful news and it really puts things into perspective. Footballers are still humans. The streets wonโ€™t forget his run in this team for our title.

    RIP.

Manninger is a name that I associate with being a child and playing fifa.

  11. RIP. Like many have already put forward, great memories of his performances through 98 especially. Always kept up with his career after he left.

  12. The first number 2 keeper I know not long after I started watching football.

The young me always remember the mark on his face when he came on during Seamanโ€™s injury and thought heโ€™s good looking even with that compared to Seaman ๐Ÿ˜€. He deputised remarkably.

RIP, what a horrible way to go.

I always remember one of his early appearances when he came charging out of his box to make a clearance and Tony Adams completely slating him. RIP Alex

I was a kid when he was at Arsenal. For me he’s proper Arsenal folklore. RIP legend.
