[Fabrice Hawkins] Well-advanced talks for Ibrahima Konaté’s contract extension at Liverpool. Negotiations focus on a deal running until 2030 or 2031. Discussions will resume after the Champions League quarter-final second leg vs PSG.

  1. This pleases me greatly. I don’t care if he’s not had the best season, I love him and you can tell he loves the club. And he’s an absolutely top class CB on his day. With more competition and cover in the CB positions with the likes of Leoni and Jacquet, this is great.

  2. All things considered, he hasn’t been that bad. Some bad moments but it’s hard to find form when others have just as bad form. Also when you lose a parent. That’ll kill your confidence

  3. good news! on his day he is a top defender, with Jacquet coming in, get leoni back to full fitness and still have gomez around we should be ok at CB. Maybe another comes in with a bit more experience??

  4. Good too see. Been a tough season but hard to judge centrebacks when they’ve had almost no protection all season.

Anyone wouldve looked poor in his position.

Can we also please sign some defensive midfield reinforcements, pretty please?

Conflicted. I’m assuming he’ll be getting top dollar but he is not a top dollar center back. Feels like another Gakpo situation.

His awful form this year better sure as hell keep the price low if you’re going to resign. Giving him a big deal with term would be beyond stupid.

He has no leverage and played his way out of Madrid in way less than one whole season.

The things I really like about Konaté when I see him play are his boots. A proper throwback

Very surprising. Didn’t think there was interest to renew this late. VVD and Mo were outliers because everyone knew they really wanted to stay. Ibou’s still only 27, and as great as it is to be a starting CB for Liverpool, I always assumed he’d love to go back home to Paris and start there.

But I’d be really glad if he stayed with us.

  10. Terrible season, but I really want him to stay.

I think he’s struggling mentally this season and if he gets that sorted he’ll be back to being a quality centre back.

  11. I honestly don’t think he’s elite level. But at the same time, this year was really an odd one because everything happened. So making statements about his level is a bit hard.

And on top of that. Strictly speaking of football, I won’t judge his level until Slot is gone. He can get prime Sergio Ramos in his squad and we still won’t have a proper defense lmao.

He’s had a tough year but I don’t think he just all of a sudden sucks I think he’s a good bounce back candidate for next year

Contract talks to resume after the man finishes a match? When else would they happen? While he’s on the pitch and our front office is watching along? What a strange addendum.

After flirting with Madrid and PSG for the better of a year then suddenly no one wanted him and he ends up signing a new deal.

I mean I’ll take it but I’m 100% sure he would’ve joined Madrid had they not backed out.

  15. After he gave away the penalty against Leeds, I was ready to carry him on back and take him to any club that would have him, but thankfully I’m not in charge so it looks like the right resolution will happen, there’s a real possibility van Dijk and Ali will both be gone by the end of next season, so he’s going to have to be the defensive leader and hopefully he’s up for the challenge

  16. After Konate’s father passed, I got the feeling that his father’s health issues may have been impacting his mental game for a lot of this season, where previously I had presumed he wanted to leave and was shirking. Of course that changed my perspective on wanting his contract extended, and I’m hopefull he’s in for a big rebound season next year.

  17. Ibou, Leoni, Virgil, Jacquet, and maybe one other depending on Gomez’s status would be fantastic for next year.

  18. Good, bad form doesn’t define a class player. People forget how solid he’s been for us before this season. Would definitely prefer to keep him, really good player and locker room presence.

Delighted with that. He lost Jota and his Dad over a few months. Form dipping while that’s going on is completely normal. I think he’s one of the best in the world when he’s playing well

Our worst player this season and that’s saying something. I don’t get how people can so passionately despise the manager but also be begging for player who has singlehandedly cost us so many points to get a pay rise. Any manager is going to struggle if they have to play this level of centre back.

  21. If Real Madrid still was showing interest in him would he be still signing that deal ?!

  22. Seriously? He’s a nightmare, constantly manhandling opponents in the penalty area..we can do better..

Hopefully they are getting a discount because this year has been….ehhhh

  24. If Grav & Gakpo are anything to go by then Konate is about to get at least a ~£250k deal. I understand we need a semblance of continuity but this is gonna be over £750k a week spread across 3 players who arguably shouldn’t be nailed on starters next season.

Not to mention we’d only be extending him because his season was so bad that the clubs he was angling for no longer want him on a free.

Great. He’s an ok player but has way way too many mistakes in him to ever be more than that and he’ll probably be on huge money.

Tbh I’d rather just replace him with Schlotterbeck or someone. We’re in transition anyway

  26. I still won’t believe it until I see it.
I hope he’s just had a bad year with the worry and then sad loss of his father.

  27. Will reserve judgement until we hear numbers, but I sincerely hope it isn’t top dollar.

Well it seems we will be in the market for a LB for Robbo (maybe we bring back Kostas), a RW for Salah, and likely another CB/RB should Gomez depart and given Frimpong and Bradley both are injury prone. I still think our top target should be a commanding defensive midfielder to allow Grav to play a more creative attacking role, especially if Endo also ends up on the move.

When Ibou is switched on, he’s as good as anyone. When he’s switched off, he’s absolutely terrible. Never seen such a hot and cold defender.

  30. Good. While I do think he’s overrated that is ***far*** from the same as thinking he’s bad, even if he has been this year.
