I know he is gone and he wanted to leave, but I cant stop wondering if we would be in a relegation battle if Son stayed with us. I know he was declining last season, but he still contributed 16 GA in 30 appearances in the league. I mean that’s def not his prime numbers, but still better than all the attackers we have right now, not to mention he would draw defenders to him and create chances for our other attackers.

He didnt only score and assits but he also was the mental backbone of the team as a captain. Romero and VDV dont seem to be captain materials imo and madders is injured for the entire season. We need somebody who is experienced and who stays mentally strong on the pitch even when we are 1 goal behind cuz it seems like spurs just go erratic and panic whenever we concede a goal.

Even if he was here, i think we would be below 10th in the league, maybe somewhere around 14, but I genuinely don’t think we would be fearing relegation right now due to his captaincy and few goals/assists here and there. It was a big mistake letting him go and selling johnson without replacing them properly.

I am honestly happy that he is not going through this shit show himself but am i delusional here? Would we still be in the 18th right now with Son?

  1. Hell no. The modern game relies on wingers. We have had zero all season.

Also, in Ange’s last season we averaged .35 points per game without Son and 1.4 with him.

Unfortunately they didn’t give Son a multi-year deal when he requested it. Also, the one reason, in my book, to have kept Ange was the chance of bringing back Son. That was a hammer blow losing him.

  2. The fact that we’d have to rely on a 33 yr old winger shows how dire we are and we failed to properly raise his understudy.

I’m glad he left us on a high. I’d rather not have him around based on how fans were starting to blame him for lack of leadership and quality. I still want us to stay up and have had a proper replacement for him (ie Semenyo, Lookman, or who have you) but glad we didn’t panic

  3. He keeps the other team honest. We dont have anyone that can make those runs or pass anymore. We also dont have anyone that can keep the keeper honest with his ability to hit bangers from anywhere

I’m glad Sonny won silverware and got the fuck out. It would be sad watching him going down with the SS Shititanic.

  5. Son was cooked in his final few seasons, a bit like Salah at Liverpool now. I can’t see he would have made a big difference. So we’d be exactly where we are now… fucked.

  6. Don’t drag Son back in to this when he was the one who clearly was the glue that held everything together.

I’m glad he’s gone, and succeeding.

He deserved better than what this club has become. Might’ve been the last player for a while who truly understood what it meant to wear the shirt. Everyone else is just collecting paycheques provided by the Tottenham Stadium Entertainment Group

Let’s just say that we only need 1 more win to escape relegation zone and 4 more wins would put us potentially in 13-14th place. I think Sonny would have turned a few of our losses into draws and a few of our draws into wins.

That being said, can you imagine how much the media would be dogpiling on him for “poor performance”? He was smart to leave when he did although it breaks my heart

  8. I don’t think he’d have made a huge difference playing, but he certainly would have finished off a few more chances and he was the glue that held it all together. We’d be better off had we kept him, and might be enough to save us.

However I was happy he went when he did as he left on a high and I thought his legs had gone. Looking back that reads like something Lange would have thought, so probably another wrong decision.

  9. Hes really what we needed to grind out a result or 2 in this horrid run we’ve been on. Like someone said already he makes defenders focus on him, even at his age. I think we get 5-6 more points with him in the side.

  10. Sonny made so many key passes and difficult goals over the years while constantly being put in different load bearing positions. It’s easy to forget how many goddamn easy goals that the less passionate likes of Brennan Johnson were squandering over and over. Sonny’s xA was far better than his results, and he of course outperforms xG cuz at least that part was up to him, even if his finishing was getting less confident as time went on.

I knew this was gonna happen, and honestly we may not even be in relegation position if we were able to keep him for one more year.

Son needed the team to create for him. Unfortunately he has lost his pace to distance himself from the defenders to score his trademark solo goals.

Madders and Kudus would be more useful currently

I’d like to say we definitely wouldn’t be 18th, but we were 17th with Son.

Not even Son can counteract the collective shittiness of this squad

Absolutely the same. He had been awful in the last few seasons. He couldn’t do anything when the team went down into 17th. I really do not like his culty worshippers. He’s done anyway

Son would not turn it around alone, we were 17th last season also. All this pinning for past players in all honesty is cringe and unhelpful. Son was on a downward trajectory. It’s best he went for all parties involved.

Not only would we have been better on the field, but it’s clear that he was a huge locker room presence. His leadership on and off the field was understated and would have made a big impact on the whole team’s performance and togetherness.

If nothing else…we’d have a captain who showed respect to the fans, made sure others on the team did as well. Instead we have current “leaders” who can give a toss about Spurs, storming off the pitch in a tantrum. Yes…he wouldn’t be the Sonny of 5 years ago. But still would be the best front line player on the team. Doubt we’d be in 18th right now if he were here. But then again….he’d probably have a done a hammy by now and out for the season.

  17. Its weird, when he was subbed, i always expected some miracle to happen. Now we dont have that person. Sad face

  18. He would’ve been brutally scapegoated like last year, to a much worse extent this year, glad he’s gone and left this shithole. Most fans abused him the entire time anyway, which he was aware of.

  19. No. It would change our fortunes dramatically. Not only would our left wing be way better than it currently, is, his presence would also improve Kudus’ impact. Do you remember how good Kudus was until every manager figured out that if they just simply put two or three players on him and mark him out of the game, we had no one who could exploit the space they left on the other side? You can’t do that with Son in the team. He’s one of the best players I’ve ever seen at exploiting space.

That’s not even going into the confidence he gave his teammates. I still remember the video of Sarr crying when he found out Son was leaving. He seemed like a big brother to the younger players in particular.

Overall, when he left, we lost the most important leader, and the best attacker in the team. Which is why I would have held on to him no matter what. You don’t let go of a player that important to the team without proper succession planning. It was such a dumb move. They at least got Richarlison before letting Kane go. Definitely not good enough. But it’s at least something. They literally let go of arguably our most important player over the last decade and replaced him with no one. The biggest L for our recruitment team to date in my opinion. And they’ve been atrocious, so it’s saying something.

  20. Not even close….we would still be bad….and Frank would still have his job, but we most certainly would not be relegated.

At this point, if we go down I am hoping all the execs lose their jobs.

  21. More than his goal-scoring or passing abilities, his attitude and leadership would have kept the team together when things started falling apart

Above the relegation zone. You have to respect him in the final third or he will ruin you with his finishing, even now. It would open up a lot more possibilities.

We are at a point where one individual player would not change our situation.
