I’m genuinely trying to understand the consistency of refereeing decisions in Europe. Today in the Feyenoord match there was a very similar situation to the one that resulted in Barcelona receiving a red card, yet no red card was given there.
Both incidents looked extremely alike in terms of contact, position, and denying the attacking opportunity, but the referees reached completely different conclusions.
Can someone explain what made the Feyenoord incident not a red while Barcelona’s was? Is there an actual rule distinction I’m missing, or is this another example of inconsistency in officiating?
Would like to hear opinions from people who understand the rules better.

Without seeing better angles, it looks like you can argue the GK would be first to the ball.
The ref who officiated our match poorly in the atletico game actually got a ban from officiating in European competitions , we were just unlucky to have him as the ref that day man .
