> “These things are far above my position as captain of the club. But my opinion is that our fans are the club. They always have been – before my time and will be after my time. It’s important that these things get solved because it benefits no-one.”
Price increases are more than fair, and far less than they could justify, commercially
Reasonable, pragmatic response you would expect from a captain. Places some pressure on the owners without being too provocative.
Some people here need to hear this.
If the players ‘care’ so much about the club and value the supporters, maybe the highest paid players could sacrifice just a small percentage of their wages commensurate with the increase.
Whilst I don’t have the numbers, perhaps someone can provide them here, I’m confident it would be a drop in the ocean for those earning £1m net per month
Just an idea
Brilliant to see yesterday. Was nice seeing how many people supported it bringing drinks in as well.
I just will never understand the opposition to stuff like this really. Since the birth of the premier league fans have paid over the odds. The fans have done their part for a long time now.
The move to put up the prices isn’t needed at all.
‘The fans are the club’ it’s a shame we had such a golden opportunity after the Super League scandal to move the culture in the Premier League with the supporters board but it’s just proven to be a token gesture time and time again.
Yep, fans and local community are the heart and soul of the club, not just another revenue stream; it’s shameful to treat them like one.
Why not tie prices to a factor of minimum wage or local median wage? Put people before profits.
Even if at times people feel that the increases are infrequent or perhaps not as stark an increase as other costs in daily life, the fact is no one’s going to stand up for the matchgoing fan’s perspective like the fans themselves. This is what this is, it’s standing up for yourself, because directors, chairmans and executives simply cannot relate to that.
