Barcelona has been one of the most unluckiest team in the majority of it's UCL Campaign.

18 years. 18 chances. And somehow, it never clicked in the Champions League knockout stages for Barcelona. From Mourinho's Inter to Klopp's Liverpool to Flick's own Bayern — the exits ranged from painful to embarrassing. A club with arguably the greatest player of all time, world-class squads, and a philosophy envied globally, yet the big ears kept slipping away. Trophies on the shelf, trauma in the Champions League — that's been Barça's cruel paradox since 2006.

  1. The lost Decade? It’s gonna be 20 years broski.

Also, what does the asterisk mean?

At least we’ve won a Champions League Trophy. There are plenty of teams that haven’t.

  3. Independent_Dig6029 on

Then still won 4 times in that period, Only Madrid won it more with the crazy streak the had

Unlucky or not good enough? Defence has always been such an issue in big European games even when pep was there

Not “unlucky” You were outplayed or played like shit and have not deserved to win it. Closest you got to it was last year and you fumbled against an old ass Inter Team.

I just don’t want Lamine Cubarsi Pedri Bernal Joan Fermin to leave my club everything else is fine.

That inter game from last year still hurts so much. If we just took a page out of the Arteta, Simeone, and Getafe tactics and played a bit of Haramball in the last few minutes we could’ve had a great UCL Final with PSG. I was shocked at Inter’s performance in the final, they just collapsed there after their semi legs with us. I still believe even if we lost, we could’ve put on an amazing fight and show.

Not unlucky. They havent been top 1/2 teams in the world since MSN days.

  9. In the last 18 years only madrid have won more UCLs than us it’s nothing to be ashamed about its the toughest competition in football for a reason sure some of those eliminations could have been avoided but you can say that about basically every elite European team

You can’t ever be 100% sure when it comes to UCL even real Madrid didn’t win a European cup for 32 years between 1966-1998 I think as Barcelona fans we have high expectations from the club as they should but sometimes it is borderline delusion we are still not completely out of our rebuild phase yet we still lack depth in key areas and some of our starters need replacing

The 7-6 still hurts like it was yesterday, but we might get another one to be sad abt this year

I get it from 05 until 12. Everything after that is either teams battering us or us allowing teams to make huge come backs. Nothing unlucky when you make stupid red cards and allow Acerbi to score like he is prime Ronaldo. Barca is not the same in the UCL after Guardiola and Enrique.

What’s so unlucky about this, we have lost the games because we lost, not because we gambled and got unlucky.

  13. The Roma – Liverpool eliminations were terrible and signaled the beginning of the end for the tiki taka team

Only 4 of those seem like missed opportunities maybe 5 or 6 but that’s kinda pushing it (I’m basing this on post 08/09). Inter 09/10, Chelsea 11/12, Atletico 15/16, Liverpool 18/19. The two that are kinda pushing it are Roma 17/18 and Inter 24/25. I’m only saying maybe on those cause I’m not confident enough in Barca winning those finals.

  15. More like weak mentality. Especially UCL games are where you fight for everything but barca as a team doesn’t have it and most lacking is veterans who are calm and are able to calm the team when needed. Even when getting easy opponents barca has lost it. Dominance then red card then panic then lose. Even after red flick refuses to change tactics.

With coach like flick we might win league regularly but ucl is literally impossible without major overhaul with best players on every position. Even after red he plays high line. With high line more chances of our players making mistakes when they are the last man and a red card eventually.
People will say because flick isn’t getting the player he needs. But flick also is too rigid to change tactics according to what he has and the situation.
But let’s give him benefit of doubt and see for another season and what he brings but if he isn’t changing tactics according to situation, u can say bye bye to ucl.

  16. No way on earth were we unlucky. We had the upper hand in so many of these fixtures. The big first leg leads against Roma and Liverpool, against 10 men of Chelsea and Inter, a two goal lead against PSG before the Araujo red card and last season against Inter again when we did not protect a lead for two minutes. We only have ourselves to blame. We are the biggest bottlers when it comes to the UCL.

  17. This is such a good example of where this fanbase is, we have absolutely lost it, the picture above is presented as some kind of catastrophe, and yet during that time period how many teams have won the Champions League as many times as us, let alone playing as well as we have? And if we are referring to the “lost decade” exclusively, so what? It is not that rare either, Real Madrid went 12 years without winning until 2014, and it took them over 30 years to win in 1998.

  18. wkhalilJ1970 on

Every team goes through a dry spell. Real Madrid spent 30 years without winning a CL trophy. I hope we don’t last that long lol. It’s has been 11 years now.

  19. And we’re still the 2nd most winning team of the current century. Only Madrid has more.

    Madrid 7 (01/02, 13/14, 15/16, 16/17, 17/18, 21/22, 23/24)
    Barça 4 (05/06, 08/09, 10/11, 14/15)
    Bayern 3 (00/01, 12/13, 19/20)
    Milan 2 (02/03, 06/07)
    Liverpool 2 (04/05, 18/19)
    Chelsea 2 (11/12, 20/21)
    Porto 1 (03/04)
    Man United 1 (07/08)
    Inter 1 (09/10)
    Man City 1 (22/23)
    PSG 1 (24/25)

In most of these games, we lost the second leg when we had comfortably won the first leg, so it feels like this year is going to be different.
