Mamardashvilli, has gone up in my estimates from that game. Wasn’t perfect but showed great character and pulled off some wicked saves.

He looked completely unaffected by the loss after the full time whistle and was smiling with his arm around their goalscorer, his countryman. For a community that upvoted a recent rant about Szoboszlai posting a picture of a watch, I thought that might be something.
But as for his performance in the game, he’s blameless for the goals and made some solid saves. I know this is odd, but he has great Aura in terms of instilling confidence imo. Karius and Mignolet lacked it at times, no issue for him though

The seasons nearly over and a lot of our players still keep passing it to his wrong foot.
It seems like a really similar situation to City, they had a keeper that was great on the ball, quick off his line and really comfortable commandong his box, the rest of the team trusted him.
They’ve switched to someone who is an incredible shot stopper but doesn’t command his area well and isn’t quick off his line, the City defense wasn’t built to play with this type of keeper, neither was ours.

the goalie should not be the scapegoat here he had a decent game, was he too far off his line for the first ? probably was it a wicked deflection ? definitely, gravenberch and van dijks poor efforts to block the shot was the real issue for that goal.

He’s probably the player I feel most bad for this season. He’s a good shot-stopper, proven in Europe but is automatically relegated to second choice for at least two seasons. The opportunities he has gotten, he’s been generally alright in but is the losing GK because of the 10 fools in front of him. I desperately wish to see him keep clean sheets and just look good, but he’s not been enabled that.

I agree, some of the goals that he has missed are incredibly difficult saves for anyone. But he has great mental fortitude because he’ll make some really great saves even after we concede. If we can improve the defense in front of him and not crater his confidence i think he’ll be one of the best.
But I remember having Karius and Mignolet and how fearful i was having them at the net, karius especially broke down, but Mamardashvilli really doesn’t break down like those guys did, he shows great character.

Feel really bad for him. He has come in as we had been playing poorly and people point the finger at him. He isn’t at Allisons leave just yet but the drop off in defence has little to do with him. However with Ali getting an extension i think Slot has made up his mind.

He did everything he could given our leaky defense. Yes, defo 5 or 6-0 if he was bad but he did minimize some damage and has given a sliver of hope on the return leg.

You didn’t watch the game if you think the keeper is in any way at fault. Was he meant to tackle them in midfield? Do any defensive work considering the 5 in front of him couldn’t? Perhaps not get the ball stuck under him, like Ekitike did all night?
