when you go back and watch the goal, pay attention to the player marking and tracking Havertz in the second phase.
that player wouldn’t feel the need to vacate his space and Havertz if someone (Martinelli) didn’t finally drive into the half space early to disrupt their marks. he had two marks on him in the second phase but he received it early enough and had the initiative to push central.
great for Martinelli and it was massive, but we can’t be doing this only on the rarest of occasions. avoiding turning and carrying in the middle of the pitch is why we almost never agitate the opp’s shape.
