Just reintegrate him as cleanly as possible, I don’t want untoward drama that could cause him to leave, because our hand could be forced

  2. – Fernández, who is on Real Madrid’s shortlist as they look to revamp their midfield

    – The punishment raised questions over Fernández’s status within the squad given he is viewed from the outside as Chelsea’s vice-captain and has led the side when Reece James has been out.

    – Within Stamford Bridge, though, the situation is regarded as more nuanced. Fernández was never officially made vice-captain and is viewed as one of several co-captains.

    – There is a recognition Fernández is an “alpha” character, making it natural for him to deputise as captain when James is absent.

    – Club sources have been clear that Fernández remains part of the leadership group. Chelsea are assessing his response to his sanction and hope that he puts himself in a position to captain the side again.

    – A key factor is whether Fernández, whose disquiet has been attributed in part to a lack of progress in his push for a better contract, remains at the club this summer.

    – Real Madrid are unlikely to meet Chelsea’s £100m asking price and there are not many alternative suitors

    – Chelsea’s owners and sporting directors have no issue with being given feedback in private by players, but wanted to make clear that public dissent is counterproductive.

    – Marc Cucurella also criticised the club in the international break, but the left-back avoided a sanction because he did so in only one interview.

I still think it’s likely he renews, the comments made (not saying I support it but it’s the usual agent song and dance) are probably pressure for contract talks

what’s the point in giving someone back the captaincy when they’ve made it clear they don’t want to be here

  5. Might be in the minority but I don’t think the road to redemption should be closed off. It’s not like it was an open “get me out of here” plea, despite of what the majority seem to have interpreted.

Granted none of us are on the inside. If he’s genuinely sorry about twerking for RM, committed to Chelsea and his teammates aren’t pissed then it’s fine in my book.

Short of all that I’d only want him captain in the impossible situation that Reece, Palmer, Caicedo, cucu and JP are all out

  7. >*Chelsea* are open to Enzo Fernández captaining the side again

The club shouldn’t be telling the manager who gets to wear the armband anyways. Must they micromanage everything?

Cole was noticeably engaged with many players when there was a chance to talk during the match that he captained. It felt like he took it seriously and rose to the occasion. Enzo has never felt like a captain to me.

Said it in the discussion thread yesterday I think Rosenior went rogue and it upset Clearlake, I 100% disagree with the notion that the board cares what the players think or what they feel or what they say as long as they’re under contract, but Rosenior should also 100% strip him of his captaincy and send him to the U21s
