    >**Manchester United defender Harry Maguire has signed a contract extension at the club.**

    >**The deal is understood to be a one-year addition to his current one which expires in June. United will also have the option of extending it for a further year.**

    >Maguire, 33, has been in impressive form as Michael Carrick’s side have risen to third in the Premier League with seven games to play.

    .

    >**He could have earned more money elsewhere but is settled in Manchester with his wife and two children and happy at United where he is an important figure in the dressing room.**

    >United waited before negotiating a new deal. Maguire wasn’t playing until January and the club’s status for next season was unsure. Now, it’s looking increasingly likely that United will return to playing European football and will need a larger squad.

  2. Great news. Unless we can get someone else who is as good a leader/role model, he should stay until he retires imo

  3. The turnaround Maguire has had since his woeful couple seasons is remarkable. Genuinely thought he was done here but I’m happy to be proven wrong

  4. Great news for an even greater contract duration. Right when I saw Scholes calling for his head on that knob’s podcast

Harry Maguire redemption ark has been glorious to witness

    Top character, top player

When you see something like ‘could have earned more money elsewhere’ but is happy and settled here, that’s the type of character you want to retain

I said he should have gone when WH were in for him. Thought it was the only choice, and he was digging in his heals stubbornly and making the wrong choice.

So happy to admit how wrong I’ve been. Not only has he been an incredible player and leader for us, but his professionalism serves as an example to all of our players, current and future. Unbreakable mindset, all credit to Harry!!

Keeping Maguire really improves the potential transfer play drastically next year as well which us great.

Steady, and experienced leadership alongside the likes of De Ligt, Martinez, Shaw and Maz will be great for the development of Yoro and Heaven and even Lammens that we will have a great base for next year and can focus on midfield and maybe fullbacks rather than worrying about CB abilities and depth this year

  9. I’ll admit that I was one to pile on him when he was at his worst but my god he really turned it around.

Never thought I will be excited to see him extend by another year. Good lad.

  10. You gotta give this man all the credit in the world. Took a beating from fans and media, put his head down and earned back our respect. Well deserved.

  11. Can’t be happier we get to see his immaculate knee slide for another year…
