dimarco without bastoni on his side is useless, doesn’t have the same synergy with calafiori obviously. last 3 games that inter played without bastoni (injured) dimarco level fell off a cliff.
bastoni ccb is useless and a big liability, his strenght is attacking not defending. he should have never been playing there.
barella has been underperforming all year for inter, actually played better for italy than for inter imagine that.

Barella we do. He has been bad all year for both. And when hes good for us, hes good for Italy
Bastoni and Di Marco havent been used in their preferred roles even once. Spaletti insisted on using Di Marco as a full back and Bastoni as a centre back in a back 4. 2 positions and roles they never play in. And then everyone is shocked that they dont play well.
Gattuso used di Marco right against Northern Ireland and Bosnia. Unfortunately, against Northern Ireland everything went through Politano and Palestra. Di Marco was in good positions and eas not used (cant really complain since Politano and Palestra had good gsmes and di marco was praised for his willing runs and being in dangerous positions). When down to 10 hes always useless.
With Bastoni, im not going to beat the dead horse but will just remind that he again was used as a central defender. A position he has NEVER played at for inter given he lacks the attributes for it.

By playing Bastoni out of position and that also affects the dynamic with Dimarco?
You need to realize these players have been playing in a 3 man formation most of their career. The manager need to play them in the right formation and right role otherwise they won’t perform as good.

Bastoni has been played as a CCB in Italy instead of LCB and he is not a good enough defender to lead the defense.
Barella is on fumes and has not performed well in the national team since Inter lost the UCL final against Man City.
Di Marco relies heavily on a good, “scary” striker to take the heat off him when wants to scores and to score his assists. (Basically he performs so well because he plays with Lautaro)
Pio Esposito needs someone who can cross in the box and cannot play in a team that relies on long balls in the middle because he is slow as molasses.

Football’s history is plenty of players that in the NT don’t hold up the same standards as they do in the clubs.
To a certain extent, Totti, Inzaghi, Del Piero, Signori, Toni, Enrico Chiesa, Ravanelli, Serena, Camoranesi and many other big names have been accused of playing “lazy” in the NT compared to their respective clubs’ careers.
My personal belief, however, is that their standard with Inter isn’t as high as the aforementioned to begin with.

Inter have better players is the simple answer. And the 3 of them have set roles in the team as well which means a ton of freedom for them to do what they want to in attack.

Imo if they’re so one-dimensional that they can only play well in one specific way, then they’re not strong players. Good for Inter that found a way to make the most of them; a club can buy players to fit around those already there, but a national team can’t do that because it has far fewer options.
Besides, Bastoni was asked to defend against Northern Ireland and Bosnia, and Inter fans act like he was being asked to single-handedly stop Spain’s 2010 team.

Well Barella has been shocking all year, and we saw the same at the national team level.
Bastoni was played centrally, which is out of position for him and he clearly can’t handle that, which I understand.
DiMarco is the real question, and I don’t have the answer.

The fact that they are two exceptional system players just shows how the talent pool in Italy is poor for these positions. What’s the point of bringing them to the national team if they aren’t playing in those systems? Well because Italian pool is weak in those positions. It’s mainly on the coach for me for calling them up and make them play in a system that don’t use their quality when everyone knows they are very systematic players.
