  1. He has become incredibly slow. It’s ridiculous how long he took to take a shot there that Khusanov could go back to him in time.

  2. Significant_Baker575 on

It’s pretty obvious his confidence is shot. Taking touches when he wouldn’t normally. The doubt plaguing the whole team is making them look worse than the are.

  3. Consider the contrast between that moment and the moment he turned Cancelo inside out from a similar punt upfield as few years ago.

Different situations of course but Salah at his sharpest would have taken one touch there and smashed it in. I know a lot of people feel a lot of anger this season, but for me the feeling has largely been sadness, and seeing his decline especially in those ‘Salah moments’ has been the hardest to watch.

I’ve said it before: it’s the trade-off we have to accept for 8 prior seasons of absolute lethality. But it doesn’t make it less of a pity in the present to see how steep a drop off he’s had.

Completely bereft of confidence. He doesn’t need that extra touch that allowed Khusanov time to recover, old Salah would’ve just ripped it far post.

  5. That second touch allowed Khusanov to put his feet in. He should have shoot it after that first touch.

It’s the same story with Salah this season. Most of the time, he got easily outplayed by the defenders cause of these.

That extra touch was so poor. Unfortunately his confidence is shot and best to move on

  7. justgivemeasecplz on

Lucky he realised he had no form/confidence and let someone else take the penalty at least

  8. Not just this but wirtz is screaming for the ball off screen, one of the easiest lay ups ever if he had the iq to do it.

  9. livinalieontimna on

It’s all confidence. Yes he’s lost half a yard but he did the hard part here and he’s done it plenty of times this season. He’s second guessing himself.

  10. I don’t event know what he’s trying to do here. Bring the ball to his left foot and shoot far corner when the angle barely exists? Really confusing stuff

  11. Two touches to control the ball at that level is ridiculous. You never get that much time.

He’s going at the end of the season and there’s no point saying anything more. Just fast forward to May please…

  12. Wherever Salah goes next year I can’t wait for him to light up the world again which I know he will the moment he’s away. I don’t know if it’s Slot or Hughes but the whole team is bereft of confidence and joy. I truly dream of how good a season we could have had if we moved on from Slot in January.

It’s really really sad to see. Been my hero ever since i was a kid and now i’m on the verge of being an adult. But saying that, he’s still got 19 g/a in all comps this year, but it’s defo safe to say he’s not been half the player he was last year. Really sad to see.

  14. Salah making it look casual again first touch, quick finish, game done before the keeper even sets. That’s elite-level composure.

  15. MushroomExpensive366 on

It’s almost unbelievable how many times Salah has missed the target entirely this season.

  16. It’s not just confidence as so many make out it’s that he’s 33 and for a striker that’s tough. He’s exceptional, more than that even, but he’s bound to drop off.

Had to go undercover in the city end on Saturday and this was right in front of me.

I knew his legs have gone but this was sad to see.  Prime Salah scores this no bother, there’s plenty past examples of his goals from very similar scenarios. Instead he takes a touch which he gets away with then decides to take another? Was absolutely painful.

  18. Live-Cut-5991 on

It’s not even that he’s not good/quick enough anymore.

I strongly feel it’s all confidence.

  19. Bayou_scouser on

Lack of confidence on the pitch is evident, in almost all phases of his game this season. He’s not the ruthless goalscorer this season. Hes not providing assists as much as he should. He is not confident on the ball when attacking. Defending is nearly non existent.

Let’s just hope he gets a bit of luck and turns things around for his last matches with LFC. I’d hate to see him end his season in this form.

  20. Definitely agree that a confident Salah shoots on the bounce, doesn’t necessarily always score but gets something that troubles the keeper.

It was interesting to see us playing some fast counter attacking football for the first 20-30 minutes. I don’t know if that was because City gave us the space or it was a planned tactic that we simply couldn’t sustain for the full half due to our conditioning / fitness?

Funny how a player can go from top 3 best players in the world, to a mid table striker, with a new manager, isn’t it

The players obviously aren’t happy with the tactics. Virgil even eluded to that in an interview. He was like

“I know we, as the players have to take responsibility, but ‘sigh’ ”

Notice how Slot has never once took the blame, either

  22. Sudden-Coast9543 on

We could’ve recovered at 2-0, and anybody else in the world gets hooked at half time after that performance.

I don’t want him starting another game this season, until we’ve got Champions League qualification mathematically secure.

He’ll always be a legend, but right now there’s too much at stake

  23. refresher1121 on

These are exactly the type of situations which a manager should help the player with. Slot should be pulling Salah aside after the match and have a good motivating tete a tete.

  24. The defender had the time to fall, get back up and run back and tackle before Salah could take a touch and shoot. Shocking

  25. I think as a whole, we need to stop looking back to last season and our accomplishments. This season is pretty much shot. It will take a miracle to win CL in the form we’re in. And we’re barely in the running to finish Top 4. What we should be doing is holding our breath for next season. We all can see that major changes need to be made. Let’s just hope management and the team see that as well. You can’t move forward if you keep looking back.

  26. Heavy-Assistant7274 on

Khusanov fell over, did a back roll, managed to get up, steady himself, and block a shot before Salah even realised it. He is an absolute legend, but we’re playing with 10 men most of the time hes on the field.

  27. llionmeekemusic on

If Salah had a half decent game against City we probably win the game, as it is we lost 4-0

  28. I think he’s just playing in his own head all the time. I get the feeling every time the ball comes to him he’s thinking Slots a dickhead, these tactics are shit, he’s ruining my legacy and I’m leaving like this and ah shit I’ve misplaced the first touch.

Dude looks legit depressed and sick of his life. And who can blame him. The tactics are woeful. The footy is so obvious.

Thing is put him in another team and he would be banging them in.

  29. Sure looked like Khusanov managed to get the tip of his foot infront, but not sure

  30. Unfair_Dragonfruit49 on

Prime and confident Salah would have used his right foot to curl it around the keeper, but unfortunately, even great players’ mojo comes to an end
