"…Liverpool and Konaté have never been closer to striking an agreement. There are, however, details to iron out, and in the meantime, Spanish clubs are attempting to scupper Liverpool’s renewal plans. Real Madrid have been touted as an admirer. The likelihood, however, is that the Frenchman stays on Merseyside, and he aims to make his decision within the next few weeks."

Don’t know how to feel about this. Some of his performances this season have been nothing short of comical, but he still shows signs of the promise he had.
Konate, Van Dijk, Jacquet, Leoni and Gomez? Another player who could play at RB/CB and we’d be set for 3-4-2-1
Good.
Despite having a pretty poor season, he’s still a great defender when he’s at his best.
After this season, i’m not sure if it is a positive or a negative if he resigns
Would I keep him as a rotating CB option? Absolutely
Will he like being a CB in rotation? Absolutely not
Is he the level we want starting at CB? Absolutely not
We have always been his third option, fallback position. The future is Jacquet/Leoni.
Konate is perhaps the player that got hit hardest with personal issues this season. Personally, I wouldn’t count this season at all, he has done enough in previous season to get a pass.
From what I recall, Tanzi is about as reliable for french football news as it gets.
As much as he had a truly horrendous season this year, it’s incredibly important he stays purely from a rebuild perspective. Not needing to spend another £60m on a centre back will be hugely useful when distributing funds to other key positions.
He’s clearly got it in him to be a top class center back, and hopefully a new season with a new system will bring that out of him.
Gonna be honest, I wouldn’t be arsed if we just got tired of him waiting for Madrid and only extending if they don’t want him, pulled our offer and planned for next season without him. Even on his best form he’s a passenger in possession, and at his worst he’s a liability on the ball.
Been up and down this season but I’d much rather he extended purely for it being one less headache to have to address in the summer.
Already need two wingers and at least one midfielder. Can’t be arsed needing to spend another £50m upwards on a starting level centre back on top of that
People wanting to ship him out and have the prospect of trying to buy even more players which FSG won’t pay for like pain.
He’s been average this season, with a better midfield and more rest, I’m sure he can’t be any worse next season. Makes sense to keep him.
I think I probably would depending on the wage given we’re probably going to have a turn around. If he’s wanting something silly he can be moved on he’s far too limited for that
would prefer him to stay but not fussed if he goes especially if we can trigger quansah’s buyback.
I want to protect his value but we need someone better at playing out and that’s just the reality. He’s far too plodding on the ball.
Not to mention his moments of brain-deadness.
This is good news for two reasons.
1) I think Konate is a player that responds well to competition, and next year with jaqcuet and Leoni fighting for both him and Virgil’s place he will have plenty of it
2) We need to be adding to to the existing squad rather than selling. Despite his poor season he is a top defender on his day and we need the depth
I do like Ibou, and on his day he’s an excellent CB, but it’s sort of giving the vibe that the only reason he might extend is because no other top club has committed to wanting to sign him.
Good news if it happens, one less problem to worry about this summer. Not had a great season but given his personal circumstances and our shambolic set up where our defenders somehow have no midfielders in front of them that’s not a big surprise.
This is one of those odd decision to delay unless the player himself refuses to extend. He’s not old, and a regular national squad. Even if he didn’t improve from this season, we can sell him for quite a bit of money. I see no reason to let him go for free. Am I missing anything here?
sign da ting, konate has had a hard year. passing of a close friend and his father. sure his performances have been patchy this year, but I think he’s still a good defender.
He was clearly close with Jota if you watched the footage the club used to put out with them, and he’s also lost his dad. Combine that with the way the team has played, lack of consistency around him (no right back, dms struggling) and his form is very explicable.
It would also cost us £60m+ to get a like for like replacement.
Great decision imo. He was massive last season. And the fact that our defenders have had to do much much much more defensive actions than last season, hell even when compared to the rest of the league including RELEGATION CANDIDATES tells you all you need to know about the state of Slot’s tactics.
No midfield, absolutely no no.6 and ineffective fullbacks have all contributed to literally 2 players in our team having to carry (and fumble)an entire defence compared to other teams defending with 7 or 8 competant players.
Keep him. Hes had a tough season but so has the whole team. We need experienced quality defenders. Leoni and Jacquets are still unproven and coming off long injuries in the summer. VVD is aging.
Ideally we need to sign another CB but we have bigger holes to fill in the squad.
Great news
We need him long term
Am the only one who doesn’t care if he leaves? The managers defensive shape and set up doesn’t help ANYONE, but after this season Im fully onboard a total reshape of the whole squad. Manager included.
Please go… he has had another shitty year and no one wants him..not even on a free.
We have spent over £100m on baby’s to cover his role.
Just go.
Sure he can have 100k/wk
It’s crazy that people want him to leave after hoping he stays. Just a couple months ago we were all sympathetic to his performance because of the death of his dad. Now people want him to leave. Why don’t we just scrap everybody who performed poorly this season then? We would have less than half the team. He’s not the only one who has had a crappy year. His is only amplified because we keep losing and he’s a defender.
