I don’t think this is entirely true, He’s not good enough too entirely carry the defence. But if others in the team stepped up hes more than capable of playing at this level. People have gotten to used to him having the pace and power to cover most of the defence and he cant anymore

He’s not the WC, near flawless VVD we’ve come to know anymore but he’s still a very solid CB, who can’t elevate an entire backline anymore on his own and will look just as crappy if his backline around him doesn’t step up
