LSB, have released further statements today.

The first, a letter addressed to LFC requesting further dialogue on ticket price increases, with warnings of the commitment to fan action failing any positive response.

The second a reflection on a supporter meeting held Tuesday after the announcement. Announcements have been made in collaboration with Spirit Of Shankly, Spion Kop 1906, CultuRED, KopOuts, and wider supports/groups.

It's vital that as many people as possible engage with this discourse, and share their views. Football should be accessible for all, local, international, rich and not so well off. Together we can make a change for the better – making football fairer and sustainable for all.

Give the various fan groups a follow to stay informed on developments. For many, the recent announcement from LFC is a tipping point and an existential threat to their way of life supporting our great club.

Do they realize the player market and wages? 13 percent over 3 seasons isn’t that much considering inflation and costs.

Edit: Keep downvoting, I don’t care. These are the same fans that will protest when the club doesn’t sign world class players for sky high fees. You want the club to compete? They need money. Simple.

  2. Just increase the prices, this whingeing happens every time. It’s just inevitable that clubs will increase prices over time.

  3. It’s unacceptable to increase prices further while reporting record revenues. There is serious risk of totally destroying an already deteriorating Anfield atmosphere by pricing out loyal local supporters. The club have more than enough money to be able to freeze ticket prices, there is no justification for an increase. Those talking about inflation need to take a look at who gets hit more by that, local football fans or a company worth billions whose shareholders simply see slightly reduced profits.

I would support any protests for this cause, we need to show them that loyal fans matter, especially to this club.

Football should be accessible to all.

Therefore all season tickets should be sold on the open market on a lottery basis. The ~~season ticket holder interest groups~~ supporters boards should be fully in favour of that right?

  5. Alternative_Gap8442 on

The super league fall out is the last time they’ll ever listen to the fans, everything after is performative.

  6. gouging the fans for slightly more ticket revenue is stupid. it’s a drop in the fucking bucket in the grand scheme of things – why bother? go find a fucking fried chicken sponsor or whatever, or book an additional match on the overseas tour.

edit: we’re in the middle of a fucking cost of living crisis and the board can’t help but raise ticket prices. jesus fucking wept

It’s not just Liverpool, football fans across the uk are treated badly in terms of ticket prices, kick off times and TV football costs. All the fans from all the clubs need to stick together and put pressure on the clubs, the FA and the government to get their voices heard

  8. Same convo since the year dot.

They’ve raised less than inflation ?

The elephant in the room is they could punt out tickets at £100 minimum and sell the place out, everyone knows deep down the prices *are* being reigned in to prevent a massive issue.

Ticket allocation is a more relevant conversation. Selfie with your purple bin etc etc.

Problem is players asking for more and more money. Has to come from somewhere. Greed.

  10. Top flight football not for the working class anymore, its a tragedy.  Some of the blame should go on the players sucking up all the revenue. Guys like Konate thinking 150k a week isn’t good enough for them. I hate what football has become.

We’re competing with the likes of Arsenal who rip their fans off with 3 grand season tickets

  11. Please don’t increase the price, locals should be able to afford to watch the games. Let us foreigners subsidize the tickets by paying for tv rights. I wish locals would stop blaming the tourists for the terrible atmosphere.

  12. Doesn’t help when you spend £460 odd million and drop out of the CL…..

*Edited.* Poor wording on my part.

Also I thought a lot more money was earned through ticket sales so that was wrong.

Those players should have a wage cut for the shit people have paid to watch this year, should be a basic pay when injured and full pay when you play and then bonuses for other things. If I don’t do my job properly and people aint happy I don’t get paid or I lose my job.I know ticket prices are not directly the players but it is when they want higher wages more money has to be raised for it.This club is becoming a shambles

  14. Told you John Henry and FSG would hit the culture negatively; much akin to what was done to the Red Sox and Fenway Park.

  15. We are turning into a corporate entity and sucking all passion out of the club. These kind of decisions coupled with slot’s bland approach to football and the club is destroying all the good from the previous 10 years

  16. The big elephant in the room is we are once again capped at 63k seats. We should have plans in place for further expansion and modernisation of stands. SKD stand needs major works but tbh its prime candidate for a rebuild next. If their argument is the stadiums complete my argument is we will be left behind again like the 90s.

  17. Brrrrraaaaiiins on

Just US ownership things. It’s how sport franchises work there. Exploit the shit out of a city, build a stadium and have the tax payers pay for it under the guise of it being a job creator, then exploit and profit. There isn’t a better job in the world if you’re a rich twat.

FSG, Boley, US English Football Club owners etc do not care about history. They don’t care about the supporters. They don’t care about the people that flags are flown for that have brought the club success. They want to sell tickets to anyone they can, and they will push the ticket prices until people stop showing up. Thing is though, is that you won’t see them truly apologize. If people stop showing up and the club ends up in disarray they’ll bounce and sell it to the next rich fool.

They let people play pretend like their voices matter. They feel like they have complete ownership of this club and the behind the doors response is “piss off.”

I have to admire all of the match going fans for trying to make it make sense and to help keep it accessible for working class families, but the truth is that these fucks are going to just keep at it until they get burned.

Remember, in the eyes of John Henry, his wife, and every other clown that sits in the stands looking miserable as shit—they believe it’s their house and you’re lucky to be in it.

  18. Illustrious-Leave-10 on

As an American, I want to apologize for the greed that American ownership consistently displays.

It’s an epidemic over here, ticket prices for bottom of the league teams are incredibly cheap but as soon as a team starts winning, ticket prices skyrocket.

  19. Anyone saying that is saying it makes sense to increase the ticket prices needs to realize how tiny that increase in revenue is for the club, compared to the decrease in affordability for match going fans. The overwhelming majority of the clubs revenue comes from sponsorships and TV rights, ticket sales are a tiny drop in an ocean.

However, in exchange for that tiny drop, the club is pricing out some of the most loyal fans that have been going to games their whole lives. There is a limited supply of those people at the end of the day. It’ll only be a matter of time before the only people who can afford to go are people who don’t actually care about the club, or don’t understand what Anfield really is. Lastly, if they’re going to increase the price, the product had better be worth it in terms of entertainment. It currently is… not that.

Spoken as someone who doesn’t live in Liverpool by the way, so it doesn’t even affect me directly. But in this current political climate and absurd cost of living crisis, where oil is about double what it used to be just weeks ago, people are already spending way more money just to get to Anfield, and now they’ll be having to pay more for tickets to watch the most boring league in the world. I don’t understand how anyone could not find this to be problematic.

  20. They’re only putting the prices up between £1.25 and £1.75, and keeping junior tickets etc the same. The most expensive match day ticket is currently £61. This increase will make it between £62.25 and £62.75. that’s a night out on the town, or a meal out with the wife/partner. It’s hardly being robbed and pricing the working class out of the game. If you could afford a ticket when it’s £61 then you can afford one when it’s £62.75.

I sincerely hope the supporters groups focus their efforts on supporting the team to perform well for the remaining games of the season and ultimately give Mo a send off with a trophy he deserves! Instead of causing distractions, when the players need motivation to remain focussed on the game, over one hundred and seventy five pennies.

  21. Green-Foundation-702 on

There were still tickets available day of the Galatasaray game, that should tell you all you need to know about the “demand” for tickets. Regular working class people are being priced out of the match going experience and that is not only a tragedy but will lead to the death of the game we all hold so dear!

  22. gidthafugout on

I agree, fight it as much as possible. But left justify please, the center justified announcement is hurting my eyes and does not look professional either.

  23. imarasnothere on

Let’s be realistic, we can’t keep ticket prices frozen indefinitely. That’s a significant chunk of matchday revenue gone.

Small increases in line with general inflation are acceptable imo. Of course the question then shifts to how much is too much?

  24. Good that there’s been strong responses so far from the supporters board and Spirit of Shankley we’re lucky to have groups like this.

Feel like this is a good point and really a critical one in terms of milking fans. Fans are already really getting ripped off and there needs to be a pushback before price rises become an absolute norm.

  25. Shit like this is why we don’t want owners in Germany. It’s a risky game, yes the clubs are rich and the league gets more attention but the club is not in your hands anymore. Corporate interests are weight against local community interests.
Not a huge issue for non-local supporters, though.
