Roberto De Zerbi has said he wants to stay at Tottenham "for a long time" in his first recorded message to the fans.

The Italian has signed a five-year contract which does not include a relegation exit clause.

Spurs sit one point and one place above the relegation zone with seven games to go after sacking three managers in the last year.

De Zerbi appeared keen to buck that trend in his first address to the Spurs supporters.

"I am very happy to [be] here with you," the former Brighton boss said. "It is a very big honour to be here and I'm very proud to be your coach.

"I want to give my best. I want to stay for a long time in this big club. See you soon."

  1. He’s hardly going to say he wants to be here for three months and get a big payout.

I actually think he does mean it. Everyone saying he’ll be gone in a year or so but I’m not so sure. I think he’s going to stick around because there is not other club of our size that would give him the amount of control that we have given him i.e the Ferguson role. He can truly build this club up in his own vision.

  3. Him after 2 months and getting the squad relegated. “Phew, it’s been such a long time with this club! Time to look for a new chapter”.

Tbf to him he left sassoulo on seemingly good terms after 3 seasons. shakhtar becuase of the war and OM don’t seem like the easiest board to deal with. What scares me the most is how he blew up at the end of his time with Brighton. But the history doesn’t inspire confidence

  5. this is spurs, gaffer. youre here for a good time not a long time.

*(really hoping im wrong this time)*

Don’t really trust what people of such questionable character say tbh.

  7. We will see, considering he has never lasted more than 2-3 season at one club…

  8. Saw a comment on another post that said he’s left 7 of his 8 jobs in 18 months or less.

The frustrating thing is the 5-year deal on alleged mega wages that will need to be paid up if he does leave in 2027/28 (on the back of us seemingly posting record losses every year now and sliding down the table instead of moving up)

If we do get relegated and he actually stays I reckon 138 points. First ever team to win the championship unbeaten then win the premier league the next season.

    I can dream right?

  10. I’m pleased he’s here, I’m very positive. He is an excellent manager.

It’s funny, seems a lot here want him to fail though.

It’s all words to me at this point. Show me through your action and results and then we can talk long term

Well he kind of has to say that, he just signed for 5 years, which is an eternity in football, and especially as a Spurs manager.
